We are planning several trips to Ontatio from Minn. One of our maps shows multipal border crossings and remote crossings between Ontario and Minn. The map refers to "Remote area bprder crossing permit" Does anyone know about them and where and how to obtain one?

Don't know about "remote trail permits", but here is a link to Ontario's snowmobile site and their FAQ. I didn't see anything on this site about the remote permits, but there are phone numbers that you could call.

Baudette and International falls are the two big ones for crossing as for the remote ones I have heard that they have call in booth's where you cross over and you have to let them know where you are going and how long. I have yet to verify this but it came from a good source someone that lives up by lake of the woods Permits are a little spendy checked into them last year kmer is from Sioux Lookout he my be able to help ya.

Convert to add to your comment I read last night that our permits in Ontario will be $160 CDN if you buy before December 1 and $190 for those of you who buy after. If you are planning even one trip I would reccomend you purchase at $160. You don't want to get caught without a permit as fines are on the spot and you end up having to buy one anyways. About the REMOTE border crossing...try this..

Call the CCRA (Canada Customs & Revenue Agency) and they will tell you. If I were you I would just drive a little further and cross at a "manned" border to avoid any issues.

Just go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/rabc.html.
That should give you all you need to know. We used a RABC to get into ON at Gunflint Lake a few years back, worked just fine. Just make sure your record is clean.
Have fun.
