Well after not seeing anything exciting enough with the 2016 line-up I went ahead and purchased a new leftover 2014 Apex XTX on Fri. Feb. 27th and I had my 300 mile break-in completed by Sun. March 1st. After my first 100 miles at 6,000 rpm's max and than an 8,000 rpm max for the next 200 miles I was finally able to ride the new Apex XTX like it was meant to ride......lol......I actully ended up at 517 miles by Sat. March 7th so my job on Sun. (yesterday) was the dreeded oil/filter change. I'm glad that's done and now I'm truly ready for my last U.P. trip of the season this weekend. I actually wonder how many riders out there break-in their new Yamaha sleds as recommended........well it gives me a nice piece of mind knowing mine was done as recommeneded......let's ride.........

I don't think the guy I bought mine off of broke it in. He had 120 miles on the 08 when I bought it. He said it would stand on end when floored.

I believe it, I don't think there's to many riders out there that actually break in a new sled per Yamaha recommendations......Yamaha put out an article some time ago about how if your new sled isn't broke in as recommended that you could loose as much as 4 hp, but I don't know how much you can believe that.......as mentioned though it does give you a piece of mind knowing it was broke in as recommended right or wrong.......I figured I spent an awful alot of money so I might as well do it per their recommendations because it truly doesn't take that long to do. That's no different than changing the oil/filter at 500 miles in my book, just another recommendation by Yamaha.......

I love the feel and riding position on my Apex, I've got a 2009 Nytro also that's fun to jump on from time to time but my main sled and the one I enjoy the most is the Apex. Little things like heated running boards are nice (no ice build up), duel trip meters, softer seat, ac outlet, seperate hand/thumb warmer controls, and that 4 th cylinder that just sounds and performs so good. As for the gas mileage I haven't really checked it, but I can very easily go 110 to 115 miles on a tank with no worries and on my 2007 Apex I run 124 miles on one tank before. My new 2014 Apex XTX only has 517 miles on it and I haven't checked it yet but I'm sure it would be around 14 or 15 mpg

YDOG Have you had a chance to sit on , or better yet drive a newer Apex with the WRP seat ?I love the feel and riding position on my Apex, I've got a 2009 Nytro also that's fun to jump on from time to time but my main sled and the one I enjoy the most is the Apex. I added this to my sled before I ever rode it , and put the star kit on along with recommended set up , heavy duty spring , 13 mm sway bar , lake effect riser , and now snowtrackers .
I read all these postings on this site all summer , and too many people saying the same thing , must be right !
I had a 2006 Apex GT that I loved ,with out even pulling up the strap a notch , let alone any other upgrade .
I decided when I bought this 2015 Apex XTX , I would do everything that I could to make the sled as good as it can be .
This sled set up as is , along with the longer track and power steering is even more fun than the last , because this sled is more comfortable , and easier to drive , and if I slide off the trail into fresh snow , I don't panic , as with the shorty , just give it a little juice , and steer out .
If it wasn't for that familiar engine , which is really why I went back to the Apex instead of anything else , you would thing you are driving a completely different sled !
I was a little worried , when I initially heard there was a new Apex for 2016 , of how I was going to explain to my wife , why I have a 2015 and a 2016 !

Thats easy, just upgrade to newer Apex with the same colour. She'll never know the difference.

If they did come out with a new model to replace the Apex this year , on a new platform , I am sure it would not be the same flat black with red , as the 2015 is.Thats easy, just upgrade to newer Apex with the same colour. She'll never know the difference.
It would look very different than mine .
My 2015 Apex is better than the 2016 that they came out with , because I did more upgrades than Yamaha did ! and I have the 144 tipped up rails .

Sledroll I'm not sure on the seat change, but I can tell you this new 2014 Apex XTX has a firmer seat and a taller seat than my 2012 Vector and I don't recall how my 2007 Apex compares to it because I sold it back in Jan. I can tell you that I love how it sits and rides and I'll probably start tweaking a few modifications on it in the off season, but not much because it's awfully nice just the way it is with the minor shock adjustments and the Blue/black dual runner Simmons ski's that I took off the 2007 before selling it and there now on my new Apex. Those ski's alone make a big difference in my opinion and they look much better than any stock ski.
