A quick 100 miles running around the base of Mt. Washington in NH yesterday on 8" of fresh powder. First we saw 2 Skidoo's abandoned on side of the trail (1 Ren, 1 MXZ), then 1 being worked on by a rude dude ticked off by a guy on an Apex (me) asking if he needed some help (left him - hope he's still there), then a Polaris pulled into the woods, covered with snow, been there a day or two, then another dead MXZ, this one being towed with a shoelace by another cult member...and finally, on the way back to the trailer, a women's newer Artic Cat having a belt changed by 2 guys in a bad spot...steep narrow incline. Not that a Yamaha has never broken down, or that i want to jinx myself but just an observation that i see this same ratio of wounded sleds all the time. Even one of our guys, riding a Poo said "another day of not being able to chuckle at a broken down Yamaha". Love that. :yam:

Could have had a chuckle at 2 yamahas on this end. Phazer with electrical gremlins ad to be towed to the dealer. Second one later in the week with frozen relay at -22 c. There is no such thing as a perfect sled. We expect that sooner or later each and every one of our sleds will be on the dead end of a tow rope regardless of brand.

I agree it's usually not the Yamaha's broke down. But I will also say it sucks when your Viper with 460 miles on it is being towed by a doo. Then you have to ride bitch for 60 miles to get your truck. But I have never been broke down with my Apex or Nytro in 6000 miles.

My son just rolled 10000 miles on my old sx700 last weekend. He is 21 so I bought the sled when he was 4.
Nothing done to motor except pistons at 6000 miles because someone gave me a free set. Ive broken a slide rail and a recoil starter. The only time it has been towed is after my son put 10 gallons of diesel fuel in it.
He will never make that mistake again. It actually went about 500 feet then quit.

Started my doo in the driveway yesterday morning. Went back in the house to get suited up. The sled took off onto the middle of the street. Went over to retrieve it....all the lights on the dash were flashing, engine was revving high. Had to shut it down and reset. It did that for a long time and almost had to abandon my ride. Finally got it to settle down and it was okay after that. It's hard to have faith in this sled when I have encountered so many issues. Thank GOD my Yamaha's have not given me problems.

I had to take "the ride of shame" last week when my 06 Vector GT blew a belt and sliced through a radiator hose (for the life of me, why didn't Yamaha have this section of hose protected???); towed by a Cat to a drop off point & then ride two-up back for the truck/trailer...

It was my first U.P. ride with this "new to me sled" and Wow, what a disappointment that a simple belt failure would cause such a problem!

Ski doo is having a large problem with that. Was up in Houghton two weeks ago with my uncle. He has a 2014 Renegade. It was resetting every 20-30 seconds. We took it Houghton Power Sports (great guys!!) and they checked it out and told him everything is ok and just ride it. Ski doo is working on the problem. When he got home he replugged the instrument pod in real tight and has not had the problem.

EPA regs combined with ethanol fuels is likely the cause of many 2 smokers going down. 2 strokes overall were pretty reliable 10-12 years ago and made decent power. They have to run them so lean now and they come set from the factory at crazy 80:1 fuel to oil ratios.
