Breaking in the new sled in the Black Hills!

Off topic a weeee bit
Does yours start with "lo-op" on dash until it fires??? And did it need some gas to get it in and out of reverse?
As for dealers I'm following my local mechanic to his new place of work in winnipeg. He's absolutely the only guy I would take my sled too. He's a customer of mine and actually saved me big time with that code problem I had. Lives a mile away from me and thankfully to my amazement he zipped over and found issue in 3 mins. Anyone in MB that needs a totally trustworthy guy I can pm you the dealer he works at.:worth:
The low oil pressure warning must be an ecu update. My new Apex does that as well, but my phaze and old Apex did not.

In fact, the new one didnt do it until after break in. So it spooked me the first time I saw it upon startup. It will do it unil the engine builds oil pressure running. Only have to worry about it if it comes on while running or never goes away.

You will also see a warning at 500 miles letting you know how many miles past the recommended first oil change.

Hi Guys,

Glad to hear I am not the only one that has tweaked the sub frame. Just heard from dealer, the adjuster dropped off a check to get the parts (including a new frame) to fix the sled on order. Pretty darn impressive....less than 24 hours from when I called in the insurance check was in the dealers hand. They are saying about 2 weeks to get it all done given the holiday.

Figured since they were replacing carbides, I would spend the extra to get some bergstrom skags on it. I have them on the shift and they really do eliminate the darting and allow you to turn on black top at the gas pumps like you have wheels on. Very impressive. The factory carbides are pretty weak...good amount of darting going on.

I also picked up the new spindle and steering bushings from Rob on this forum, so will have those installed while they are replacing the frame. Hopefully after all these little issues the thing will be ready to actually ride.

That red light freaked me out as well when I started it the first few times. Looked it up in the manual...says you are NOT to move the sled until it goes out indicating the oil has warmed up. Manual also says to let it warm up for 15 minutes for the first 100 miles when you start it....I going to keep letting it warm up for 10-15 min for the first 500 miles. Once it is really warmed up, it seems to run much better.

When I start it, I find that I have to hold the key just a tad longer than I would think to ensure it starts. Once I do that, it always keeps running. I never touch the throttle during warm up. I find transition from forward to reverse to be seamless and not require any additional throttle at all...just be stationary and hit the button, let it engage, then give throttle.

Well, it would be really great if we did get some snow this weekend...but the weather models are all over the place. I had the shift re-jetted back to the flat lands so I can go riding should something pan out. I am done going to the hills...that place is a land mine trap of dangerous obstacles. Every time we have gone someone from the group has either hit something or been seriously injured. Just too many rocks, stumps and logs...it would require 36+ inch of solid base to cover everything up to the point I might feel partially safe riding out there again, and they just do not get that kind of snow anymore. This trip we were having to avoid large rocks in the trail!

Yes, it does show "lo-op" until it fires.

One thing I have done with the Phazer, is cycle the key to "on" (not "start") let the fuel pump charge the lines...turn it back to "off", then cycle it back to "on" - let the fuel pump run until it stops, then fire it up!

That's a good point. You do want to turn it to on and wait for that pump to cycle. I do that on all of my EFI sleds and motorcycles. Cycling it twice may not be necessary, but it serves the same purpose.

Thanks for your experience Flyinhigh!! I've dropped my idle way down to what manual calls for and it's shifting everytime now.
Good luck with the Phazer!! Let us know if the dealer finds any other updates :)
