broke my arm
About half way through a 300 mile trip, my arm snapped. Had to ride it back home, bucking the whole way. The arm is shot. 1 year out of warranty (but only 1200 miles on the sled) and Yamaha said sorry buddy, fix it yourself. Where's the class action suit? I want in. Now I have to pony up $400 to fix a design flaw in a new sled? $h!tty, Yamaha.

Did you try calling Yamaha directly? Its worth a try.
Yamaha won't help!
Yamaha will play the bad economy card and tell you there is nothing they can do. This is definitely a safety issue and needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt - if they already haven't. I'll be jumpin ship next time my phazer breaks. What happened to safety first?

Ya well, I called Yamaha today. I tried to be as civil as I possibly could with the whole more honey than vinegar thing. All it got me was frustrated. The woman "Product Specialist" on the phone actually had the nerve to say that she's never heard of one of these failing! She said that if I wanted to Yamaha to cover what I called a structural failure, I should have paid for Y.E.S.
I ride 1200 miles on a "rough trail" sled and it shears in half, and I should have paid them more money?
Seriously, fcuk them.

That stinks. The 08,09 arm is made much stronger so its obvious they have seen this before. Is your link cracked?See if it is.There is a specific bulletin for the link that the customer service lady will find on her computer.I dont believe there is one for the arm even though it is included in the linkage bulletin. What I am trying to explain is that when talking to these customer service people they go strictly by the book. They arent required to know the ins and outs of ever sled Yamaha makes so its easy for them to miss something like this. There are lots of pics and info here showing all the differences in the newer arms and the linkage.Check your link for stress cracks and if they are there go that route with customer service.Last resort is to just reinforce it yourself like said. That will work just as well if not better.

I was riding a section of really sharp edged bumps, the kind that can only be described as square edged hits about 2 feet apart and the same deep, some bigger and could be doubled if u timed the go flipper right. Any way I noticed the back end kicking up and to the sides along with a knocking sound from under the tunnel. I figured it was just my spring setttings and the rough trail but will be haulin my skid out tomorrow for a good look over. When my dealer did the ball joint update(I think it should be a safety recall) and cooling fan they said my link was fine,no broken welds ao stress marks, I will be double cheking.

Well we had just checked the pivot arm on my son's Phazer the morning of the day it broke. It looked perfectly fine, we went out to a play area and he was doing some small jumps then snap it broke. We tried the dealer then Yamaha route and they said the same as you were told " Sorry but it's one year out of warranty and the arm was replaced once before in 07'. I said yes it was but the updated arm didn't come out til 08' so why can't we get the updated arm as you know it was a problem or you wouldn't have come out with an updated version. They still refused, so we pulled it out and I had a friend weld it up and gusset it as yam177 has shown he did his. My son has absolutely launched this sled now and it's holding up just fine. He loves to jump, when riding around home instead of actually driving across neighbors driveways he just completely jumps them. This is how it should have been from the factory as it is touted as a rough trail sled. My wife has said there will be no more Yamaha's bought by us if they can't stand behind their product better than that. Gene

If he continues to jump he will also need to brace a few other things
Yamaha Rear track tensioners like to break and come loose. This will cause your tension to be loose. If you take a big fender washer and install in front of the tensioner nut this will provide extra support to keep this from happening GL!
HEADLIGHT MOUNT
Make sure to add additional zip ties to the top center headlight mount to keep it from breaking off and the headlight will come flying off.
REAR SUSPENSION TIPS
Mark all bolts with a paint pen this allow quick inspection to see if one has come loose during or after the race.
Front Torque are needs some additional braces to keep it from bending email me if you need pictures.
FRONT SUSPENSION TIPS
Remove the stock A-arm bolts and Add large washer to them this adds additional support in the weak sub frame area. You will also see two holes in the front spindle run a longer bolt for the upper ball joint through both holes filling the gap with washers. This allows for more support to the weak part of the spindle.
The other thing is He really needs to get the shocks valved for him and that will reduce the likely hood of undue stress to the rear skid. You should also install the race kit with the braces. Ant the 4th Wheel kit
When you are talking jumping are talking 10-15 feet in the air with 70 foot tables? Mine braced up will do this all day long with no damage.
I will post more as time allows

"When you are talking jumping are talking 10-15 feet in the air with 70 foot tables? " Well if you consider this jumping then I guess my son is just hopping and skipping LOL.. He has not flown quite that far but he goes over to a golf course close to our house and there are plenty of tees and sand traps to launch off of. I would guess his longest jump at about 8-10' high and about 35-40 feet in length. When jumping the driveways he doesn't get much height but about 20' in distance. I watch him jump it and it looks so fun, but those days are over for me after breaking my spine in 2 places the doctors said I could still ride just don't do anything crazy like jumping or I could end up in a wheelchair. Thanks for the tips on strengthening it up will make a good summer project. Gene
