So I spent the last two days in the garage welding and grinding. I'm building (with the help of a friend) 4 sets of boards. There sets will be as pictured above on XTX's and the last set will be modified a bit to fix my friends 07 Rev mxzx 800. My welding skills are not the best but I am having fun with this project. Wish I had a Tig welder. Its on my wish list. I figure powder coating will cover up most of the small imperfections, that I can't get my grinder on to. Also spent half the Saturday planing the a-arm build. Getting excited about that. Now that the boards are almost done. I just need to finish cleaning up some welds. Add the traction screws, tack each one. Then its off to powder coating.

looks great!
Ok, so I spent a bit of time again in the garage. The boards are ready for powder coating. Unfortunately that won't get that done until the a-arms are finished and ready for powder coating. Im super happy on how they turned out. Each board weighs in as 3.3lbs. The old stock running boards that I cut off, came in at 3.9lbs. So with this mod I lost a total of just over 1lbs for the sled. And a cost of just under $200 for the pair. Now if I had made them out of all round tube, the cost would have been less than half at around $80 for the pair.

That's been considered. Notice that the traction screws are installed and welded to the boards before they have been powder coated. The powder will round off the sharp edges of the screws so the shins should be fine.
So the boards are now 100% complete. 3sets for XTX'x and one set for a 07 Rev XRS we just trimmed and adjusted the rear bracket to fit. Fits like a charm and looks cool to. Now its onto the a-arm build. Ill start another post for those. The next time I'll post here is when I have them powder coated.
