hey just wondering if anyone else has had there nytro burn some oil. I burnt roughly 1.25 quarts of in 750 miles. My dealer says this can be normal up to 2000-3000 miles. I have 1350 miles on it. Anyone else burning oil?

:crap: That's what I say. Normal?? Are you fuccking serious?? No it should not burn oil for 2-3,000 miles. I'd be getting ahold of a new dealer.

Are you overfilling it though?? If you overfilling it every time it gets a little low, it will blow the excess out the breather, but not burn it. The oil level should not be right up to the top of the checkers on the stick. 1/2 way between full and add is fine.

The only Yamaha 4-stroke sleds known to burn oil are the '03 RX-1's, and not even all of them are doing it. If it is in fact going thru that much oil in 700 miles, you've got a SERIOUS internal issue.... I.E. bad valve guides, burned valves, broken or stuck rings, breather problems, etc.

blows oil out of the over flow/crank vent, and if the sled has been on its side at all it will dump oil in the air box then out of the sled. doubtfull it is burning it.

Happened to me, 200 miles after an oil change my light flickered a little when I had it parked funny. Checked it and it was a little low, when I got back I stopped at the dealer. First thing we did was pop the air box and sure enough there was some oil in there. Funny thing is the drain for the airbox is just above the front of the motor so it looks like you are leaking oil from the top of heads but its not. He said it happens when you get just the right powder conditions, creates a small vaccum if the sled cant get air and sucks some oil up in there. I know right when it happened too as we dont get a lot of powder riding except in our lawn. Not sure if that sounds similar?

That's what happened to mine. After a ride I had it parked in my driveway just getting ready to bring it in the garage when I noticed a few drops of oil under the front! I remembered reading about this so I took all the panels off & started tracing the path. Sure enough, front of the engine was wet! Pulled airbox apart and wiped it clean, cleaned the filter & put back together. My dealer had over filled the oil so I took my extraction tool & removed 4 & a half ounces of oil! Now it's about an 1/8 to 1/4" below the "H" mark!

Blue how much of a PITA was it to get the airbox apart? I just popped the lid and put it back on without takinf it off. I think in the spring I will take it off and clean it. How did you get around the sterring post?

LOL, it's just plain & simply a PITA!! Obviously, loosen the four plastic snap rivet type fasteners that hold your headlight assembly down. This allows you to lift it up just a bit to get it out of the way so u can slide the lid out as well as the filter & filter frame or whatever the manual calls it! As for the steering post, it just takes a bit of wiggling and you'll get it! It's a bugger to get out but now that I've done it it'll be a bit easier next time! I must say I was extremely impressed with how clean my airbox & filter were! Looked like new yet! The airbox actually has nice evacuation holes in it so that no oil sits inside it! While I'm not a big fan of having it run down the front of the motor, it's better than having it slosh around in the airbox! A check valve or something like that in that vent line would be a good idea!

Thats just under the H mark with the dipstick jut set in and not screwed in right?

Actually, oil consumption on a 4 stoke engine is perfectly normal, just as long as it is not excessive. That is how the piston and rings are lubricated, and some of it is going to burn. I think of it kinda like the same difference, as if you add oil to a 2 stroke to be consumed while it lubricates, a 4 stroke is going to need oil the same.

1.5 quarts in 750 miles????? Ummm.... no,no, AND no!! :drink: :drink:

Maybe, maybe 1-2 ounces in 5,000 miles. Furthermore, these engines are not high compression or forced induction that would create high cylinder and crankcase pressures to force any oil past the rings.

5300 kms on mine and no oil burn at all. I ride in deep powder often, had it on it's side, upside down, and rolled over a few times too, and only once did I see oil drip out the side, but still no oil consumption. I'd get that sled to the dealer ASAP for a good check-up, and don't take "it's normal" for an answer.

Check you chain case oil. I believe mine must of got sucked up through the jackshaft seal. All I know is that it was all gone and sure was stinky

I would say in your case it is excessive!
