Burning Sliders

Ok I have cut out all of the closed windows on my crapsaw track. I hope this helps somewhat. Has anybody done this and had success? Also has anybody gone one step further and clipped it fully and noticed a difference? I know bigger wheels work, but which ones for a Nytro?
I was riding yesterday and it was -22C in the morning and I was leading. My buddy on his crossfire which has a fully clipped Ripsaw had to lead me because I was burning rubber and sliders so bad on the hard trail. After him and 2 other guys chewed up the trail I was ok, no more burning.
I am getting sick of this #*$&@, I complain to Yamaha Canada every year and they do nothing"its bad conditions" I say bad track and small wheels!

Under 700 miles and slides are toasted. I've never replaced slides under 2000 miles, and when I did they were still in good shape. Put a new set on this last weekend and doubt I'll get 700 miles out of this set either. Also to note, the slides on this nytro wore as uneven as anything I've seen.

I don't think it's acceptable that the sliders are burning up so fast. This is a problem that YAMAHA should address, as it's been a PROBLEM for a few years now.

I took a holesaw to my track thinking that it would help with the slider issue, but it didn't. Adding clips "may" help (less friction), but I haven't done this, so no experience there.

The best thing that I think you can do is replace the idler wheels with larger ones and add another set if you can. I'm not familiar with the Nytro's skid, so I don't know the size(s).

Go back to your Dealer and insist on them changing them for larger wheels at Yamaha's expense and lodge a complaint with Yammy in writing.

Yamaha really needs to wake up with this repeat issue if they want to be #1. They've got a headstart with the 4 stroke thing, but the other manufacturers WILL catch up and will have better suspensions (as history has shown) and skis (do a search on skis and see) and stay ahead of Yamaha.

With Skidoo about to announce a competitive 4 stroke shortly, I will be watching their sleds more and more and if the engines hold up, I would not hesitate to buy a Skidoo.

The crappy part is wondering if you are going to get back in time to change them, thats what I am pissed about.

Agreed, I changed mine 3 times during my first year of ownership...2600km...that's an average of just 650km per set of sliders and it aint no fun changing them when it's minus 20.

Last season, after going with larger wheels, I went an entire season without changing them for 1500km. I would still be using them if I hadn't invested and installed a new suspension.

Btw, with my new ZX2 suspension, I have 2000km on the sliders and there is more than plenty of life in them yet.

.....this seems odd. I did notice some play in the location hole on the front ideler wheels. I gained about .125" wheel dia by dropping the wheel down in the hole. I'm not sure if this is the area you are seeing the wear.

I'm @ 2000km and still OK

Not sure whats going on with your sliders there. I have 2400 km's on the sled and still ok. Only thing I did different was reset the track tension to
1-3/8" at 16 lbs force (ski-doo's specs). Just felt 22 lbs was too tight. Been running Like that with studs since 500 km's no problems.

I'm running as loose as I can. I VERY RARELY RATCHET. I did this way too late into the first set of sliders. They were 3/4 gone when I started doing this. About 500 km. Since then I have put 600 more km on them and they have not changed much in those subsequent 600km.

The suggest tension in the manual is way too tight IMHO.

Fully clipped Intense 1.5".
Ski-Doo extroverts (= track not as tight as stock recommendation).
No idler wheels due to a space-consuming aftermarket center shock.
600 km so far and no issues at all, sliders still look like brand new.

But I would say that Yamaha Canada are right, slider wear depends very much on your riding conditions. I have been riding only on very soft trails and in fresh powder.

Running extroverts, but we have one with a stock track using them up in the same fashion.
;)!

One thing I have noticed is a lot of you guys using the ski-doo drivers. Any advantage to those versus the MTX drivers. With the MTX's all you have to do is pop off the outside wheels, press the two extroverts on and it seems to be all set!! Just curious!

1000km on mine and sliders about 60-70% worn. I find they were to this point and then go for a very long time before wearing through.
