I may be in the market to up grade my 16 year old son's sled, which is a 99, 500 liq ski=doo grandtouring. I have thought about looking into a Rev or mybe a Vector. Any thoughts. I've been on the Rev and like it but also love my RX 1. The Rev seems like it may be easier for someone his size to handle. I have never been on a Vector. Do they handle more nimbly than the RX 1 or more like a Rev? Any thoughts.

If you are looking for something close to a REV, I would look at the Nytro. I test drove one at the Colebrook Sno-deo and it had the rider forward stance of a REV but more comfortable and very snappy with light steering. Plus it has the three cylinder 4-stroke 1049cc engine and still weighs 40lbs less than the Vector 973cc.

Vector vs rev
One problem with the all new Nytro, Cost. I think I can get a vector or a Rev a little cheaper.

revs are awesome, so are the vectors. If he is a typical 16 yr old fence post build the rev would be probably better, as a dad possibly safer too, we rode with a first time snowmobiler on a rev and we were all taking side bets when he would bite it into a tree as hard as we were riding and everyone BUt him went off the trail!
The vector is better suited for slightly larger builds. The weight difference does matter although the vector drives like its 50 lbs less then it is. Very easy to steer, sips fuel, and can flat out corner once its dialed in. The vector does feel much more nimble then the RX1. I personally love the vector, very very nice sled for our type of riding. Only complaint is the crappy skis and darting, the darting can be fixed with woodies duellys like we did on ours and it is a great sled to ride now.
The other issue is doo fan or not the yamaha will always out last the doo, the 600 sdi HO motor is a awesome motor and would possibly give the 3 cyl a run for the money but the chassis of the vector would be more durable. I would shop around for a 3-5000 mile vector vs a 1000-2000 mile rev and see what the pricing is what ever you get a better deal on would probably be the deal maker.

Why not a Phazer? Price is good, fun factor is awesome, and 80hp is good for a 16 year old so that they won't get into too much trouble. If you want more power, then by all means go for a Vector but the Phazer is no slouch. I rode with a group of guys last Feb; 1 Phazer, 2 Attaks, 1 Apex, and 1 Blair Morgan Rev. Except for the lake runs, the guy on the Phazer led the group and he was damn hard to keep up with.brian popa said:I may be in the market to up grade my 16 year old son's sled, which is a 99, 500 liq ski=doo grandtouring. Thanks for the advice, still looking. The Phazer is a thought, but o nce he out runs the Phazer, I'm sure he'll be eyeing my RX1, so I will be relegated to what he leaves me. I'm not too sure I want a Phazer, maybe a Nytro.
