Its winter, no dust, no dirt really other than potentially some belt dust. Why would the filter oil even be needed I don't see.

You don't need to! I have outerwear pre filter for belt dust on mine
I use the Outerwear pre-filter as well.

And to go one step further, why any filter at all? If I built another CAI design like mine last yr, I would simply use the outerwears sock over a drilled out alum tube. No filter needed when you use sock IMO. Biggest part of the cost when I designed/built my CAI was the k&n itself.

Agree with Dan...a hydrophobic pre filter properly secured is sufficient.. bit of you use a filter... no oil
