Total flat lander here (saskatchewan). I am thinking about taking my APEX to the mountains this yr and I am wondering if i am going to spend the weekends totally stuck or should i buy a apex/ Nytro mountain.
Me I am a 300 lb guy, 6ft tall.
My sled is a 2006 apex GT, SLP Powder pro skis, Rox adjustable risers, ZX-2 144 skid with a 2"x16"x144 track.
Do you need the supercharger/turbo to have fun in the mountains with this sled?
ps. Just sat on the new 09 Nytro XTX and i am wondering with different skiis and a deeper lug track would this be a better option.
Opinions welcome, I am trying to loose rider weight for these trips because i know with the elevation differences it is going to be a workout when i get stuck.

I have the gears, Just need to adjust the clutching. I was more worried about the powder and getting that heavy beast stuck constantly. I know the way i ride i will get stuck. It's just how stuck that i am concerned with. Also getting stuck everytime i left the trail would be a problem.

With the powder skis, and the 144" at 2" paddle I would think you would be ok. Obviously you won't keep up with 155"M8's but I wouldn't think you'd be too bad off.

I simply drilled out the rivets.. Sled worked AWSOME..
I actually hit over 100mph in some places past the 7000 foot mark..

you will be fine and have a blast there are a few skidoos and Polaris in our group running 121 and 1 1/4 tracks including my wife will ya get stuck? probably how much well that just depends on snow and how fast ya learn ( I have a learning disability I can get my 162 half way to china relatively easy) but with a 144 i wouldn't worry too much

Just clutch it and you will be fine.
I took my 136" vector with a 2" track every where in the snowy range mtns and out climbed some 162" skidoo's and other longer sleds.
I had more fun on that 136" then i did my apex mtn.
Most of it is in the driver long as you clutch the sled for proper rpm or at least close.

I have an 08 LTX GT with a 144 x 1.5 cross country track - I went late in the year and had no real problems - no rivets was pretty close. If your a good rider (Unlike me) you should be able to go anywhere you need - alot depends on the snow!
