Is it specific to one model of the Apex line or all? Is it a certain year or did thay start reinforcing them halfway through a production year? Is it relative to the rider weight?
It seems like these little issues are overwhelming. I never know if they are widespread or just a few isolated but highly visable cases.

You can bend the tunnel on hard bottom outs. when the weight of the mofflers come down hard and hit the stops it can bend the tunnel. you need to set suspension so it does't hit stops that hard. the 06 come with the first update 07's come with both. We actually doubled the o6uds on my buddies sled as he weighs 325 dressed and pounds the sled hard Seems like plates were around $35 a set and rivets are .50 apiece. they are I believe a metic size.

mine has a slight bend on each side, under the seat on the top of the tunnel. but the sides are strait as an arrow. maybe it is just the design? hard to tell if its bent or not. i have bottomed the crap out of it a few times.zipclean said:Has anyone had trouble with the 06 Attaks??

Some of the info here is a little confusing. I can confirm:
- 06 Apex ER, RTX, and GT had a pair of reinforcement plates added compared to the 05 RX-1
- 07 is the same, with the exception to the 07 GT which has an extra pair of tunnel reinforcements. The 07 GT pieces are smaller, but they are intended to transfer the loads from the 06 reinforcements to the rear suspension bracket area.
Why only the 07 GT got them is a bit of a mystery (to me at least).
I don't know the status of the Vector/Nytro/Attak/Mountain sleds as far as these reinforcements go.
If the sled didn't come with them, the reinforcements can be added to any of the 120hp, RX, or 150hp 4-strokes with the 121" track (sleds with a ProActive skid require trimming of the 07 GT reinforcement plates to make them fit).
The first set of reinforcements found on the 06 Apex line are Yamaha part numbers:
8FP-21928-00-00 (LH) and 8FP-21938-00-00 (RH)
The extra set found only on the 07 GT are Yamaha part numbers:
8FJ-21924-00-00 (LH) and 8FJ-21934-00-00 (RH)
The rivets used to install them are Yamaha part numbers:
90267-47186-00 (black rivets, quantity: 24 for adding just the 07 GT reinforcements or 46 for both pairs of reinforcements)
or 90267-47195-00 (unpainted rivets, quantity: 24 for adding just the 07 GT reinforcements or 46 for both pairs of reinforcements)
If you want to install the 07 GT reinforcements on an 07 RTX you need to trim the length of the plates to make them fit and drill a couple of new holes in the plates (because of the different rear suspension mounts with the ProActive skid).
The picture below shows both reinforcement plates on an 07 GT (the smaller plate to the right, up against the suspension bracket, is the one unique to the 07 GT).

Mine is the same as n2oiroc above. Only bent under the seat. (maybe I'm heavier than the Japanese)

Mines the same as well, just above the exhaust covers, under the seat, but the tunnel seems straight. I have to look at one to see if they are the same or not or if that little tweak is suppost to be there.n2oiroc said:mine has a slight bend on each side, under the seat on the top of the tunnel. but the sides are strait as an arrow. maybe it is just the design? hard to tell if its bent or not. i have bottomed the crap out of it a few times.zipclean said:Has anyone had trouble with the 06 Attaks??

That bend in the tunnel above the exhaust covers on both sides is normal and is part of the contour of the tunnel. Every Apex I looked at has it including ones on the showroom floor. The GT's seem to be the ones with the issues and that is why the 07's got the extra plates, it is from bottoming out hard. With all the shock issues the GT's had it makes sense that these were the ones that bottomed hard and possibly bent tunnels.
