carbed vectors
I have two carbed Vectors and I find it much easier to add choke instead of backing it out. Turn key with no choke and start giving it choke till it fires and let her set. Works way better than starting with full choke.

I can't believe we're still talking about how to start the carbed 973??? Full choke, start it then 3/4 choke until the light goes off then go? It's not rocket science boys! Don't be afraid of the Carb motor but if you can swing the EFi go for it for the instant power.

Apparently, everyone has their own method for starting these engines. This is likely due to the adjustment of your choke cable: a tight cable gives more choke; a loose cable might not give full choke. But I don't understand Geezer 2 with cranking before applying choke and then only a little at a time until it starts?? Too much cranking/unnecessary wear on the starter for my taste.
If I started I my Warrior using your method, RobWarrior, I would have fouled plugs. I always found with that full choke to start and then getting the choke fully off as soon as possible was best. It is easy to foul plugs in these engines using too much choke.

Had an 04 Warrior as well, I always took the choke off as soon as I could...can't do that with the 3 hole 973, I have fouled 0 plugs on either 07 or 09 using the choke until the light goes off, take away too much choke or too soon and you'll be cranking it over again. Warrior seemed to idle high until the light went off without any choke if I remember correct? But still to answer the posters question...take the EFI for the punchy throttle hit!!

hey rob and vt
just what geezer said
on my 07 i gave full choke and it started great every time
then my motor smoked an exhaust valve
yammi put in a complete engine
which includes new carbs
now i cannot start with full choke
like geezer says
start with no choke and fairly quickly increase choke
it fires up pretty well right away
as soon as choke hits full
but
if i start with full
it floods the plugs
i think it is just the difference between carbs
it is way easier to add choke than to pull plugs out
it only makes a second or 2 difference on starting
they both warm up the same
although i am starting to forget the original motor as it is

No doubt we can make carbed sleds start and work well, but I have no desire to go back to carbed sleds. Heck turn key start, instant throttle response. My two cents

Got a chance to try a new vector with eps today, what a difference in power compared to my 09,it was a dream to ride, this is the best yamaha sled if you ask me,efi is so much better and it sounds almost like an apex,I,m getting one if the 2014 don't turn my crank,oh,eps,it works
