My brother bought a new '14 xtx 1.75 last spring, we spend 98% of the time on groomed trails. He weighs 210ish.
What would be a good carbide for his sled. I assume it has tuner skis

I'm a fan of Woddys carbides. I prefer the round host bar....less initial turn in effoert and overall steering effort which the Nytro aready has in spades. I would run 6in inside and the experiement with outside starting with the oem 2in and then maybe Woodys 4in. The Tuners rock for rail riding with good carbides.

You will see a lot of votes for Shaper and other square host bar carbides....they def do steer well...but lots of steering effort.

thanks man.

The Yamaha rep swears that 6" outside with 4" inside is the best performing trail setup for the Tuner ski on the Nytro and Viper. Every sled on the Yamaha demo tour was setup that way. I'm going to run this way this season, I expect increased effort and significantly more bite for tight trails.

stock skis and bergstrom 8" triple points.
6 and 4 will certainly bite and steer...using the heavier carbide inside is typically the best setup on tuners....but it's easy to experiment and see what works for you...they don't call em tuners for nuthin! LOL

You'll prolly need/want to adjust your chassis setup if you run that much carbide to lighten up the front end...limiter length and or rear transfer blocks...steering effort will be high.

I ran 6 inside and 0 outside was a better setup than 4 inside and outside. Biggest problem with the tuners is they tend to push in the corners. I switched to Curve XS with a single 4" carbide, They hold the line and don't push in the corners, but heavy steering compared to the tuners.

Yup. I bought Curve XS last year. The Curves are awesome in loose snow and off trail but they are heavier teering and don't work as well on hardpack and or when the trails are super hard especially into late season.
I find the Tuners work great on the hardpack well groomed trails...no push but they push and are poor in loose snow.
I found 6in inside and 2 out worked well altho 4in inside is enough if they are fresh.

I am going to just swap between the two sets of skis depending on conditions this year.
