carbides and shimming

I'm new so bear with me but it seems theses vectors need a bit of help from the factory for steering

The two carbide choices seem to be dual carbide runners and the Bergstrom tripple points. It seems the bergstrom seem to be better, opinions?

also with a non studded track how long should I get, stay 4" or go 6"


I've also read about shimming the skis. from what i can tell this helps prevent darting and also helps them bite in th corners but at the expense of increased turning effort?

First off, welcome aboard! I have tried both stud boy and woody's doolie carbides with shims. I found that the stud boys take more steering effort but have no drag. Woodys have less steering effort with some drag (not a big deal) I also took the shims back out. I love the woodys doolies with no shims. I have not tried the shaper bars. Hope this helps!

I went with the bergstrom due to so many people saying they outlast all other carbides. I myself bought the TP's. I went with the 8" for the RS venture being a bigger sled and I am a bigger rider. When I ordered i got the tp's, ski savers and the shims for $150 shipped to my door. I ordered the ski shims in case i needed them, I will take a look at the ski-ground contact and if they need it then i will shim. If your carbides and not touching correctly them i would shim.

I put the 6" tripples on mine. Mine did not require the shims and I noticed no increase in steering effort with them. I Had zero darting also.

I have the Bergstrom triple on my Rage. They are 8" carbide and are not shimmed. Love them. They are wearing good and corner excellent for me

I actually went with roetin xpr-1 6.5 " single bar with triple carbides and have been more than happy.

I didn't know Roetin made a triple carbide. I can't find it on their website. Can you explain further? Are they like the triple points that Bergstrom makes?

thetruck454, unless you're willing to wait several weeks, I'd recommend the Bergstroms. However if you want them asap, go with Woody's, Studboy, or Roetin and get them through a distributor. ie. Royal Distributing for Canada or Dennis Kirk for the States.

Scott recomended the 6" tripples and they worked great for me. Keep in mind the ripsaw track really hooks up well in the hard pack.
