Any words of wisdom on carrying extra fuel on a stock XTX? I'm going on a long club ride Saturday, and don't want to gamble on making the 100+ wilderness river and trail miles on a single tank...
Presently I'm toying with strapping a flat ATV fuel carrier to the side rail, or perhaps carrying a small fuel jug in a backpack. I don't have a rack on the back, just an exhaust turnout.
Any suggestions (or warnings) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Long term, the best thing to do is break down and get a "Trail Tank" , then you will have a little over 10 Gal. Capacity. Or buy the fuel caddy kit from Yamaha.

I went with the fuel caddies because they were about $300 cheaper then the trail tank...over 2000 miles with no problems and they install in about 1/2 an hour.

i like the idea, but its about the ugliest thing i could imagine, i'd rather just stick two 2 gallon cans on the back of the sled.

I also went with the Yamaha fuel caddies! I mounted them without the black bags and love the look! They are a great addition in my opinion!

I went with fuel caddies too but my first ride was not favorable for one of the bags. One got so iced up you could not open it with a chisel, ended up ripping the zipper handle off with little effort (It should be able to be fixed easily). The other got the bottom of the bag ripped up from going through a trenched out area. But I can say that I did need to use them one time. That one time having them has paid off.
