Stock turbo in Polaris and AC already waiting for Yamaha.

I rather like the concept of retardedly overpowered (!!!), but the chassis needs to be able to handle it - so it's not a deathtrap. I would think a piece of this would be to prove prior high performance experience as part of the purchasing experince? Not going to happen I know....fun to consider though!

Not sure why some call the Cat turbo a dud! At 118mph on the trail its no dud. Please don't come back with numbers taken from running on ice. I run on the trail in the real world speed on ice is meaningless. And for the guy who is going to say his Appex hits more then 118mph. I ask will it with my fat arse on its back? Plus forget about the dream meter, we all know how far out they are. Do you really think that 20 more hp makes for a huge increase in top end?

Once your going over 100mph it takes huge hp to gain small amounts of speed. There are turboed Yamis making 290hp that only go 30mph faster then the stock 150 model. Where the hp shows up in in the midrange and maybe a bit in the bottom end.

As a fat guy I want that pull up to speed that only hp can give you. If you look at the the yamacharger setup that 20hp increase is a very nice boost through the middle with a slight increase in top speed.

150 to 180hp sled is what I want and expect from a performance sled. Yep its a small market, but it always has been and always will be. Everyone wants one but the sticker price drives them to a lower price model.

Given the choice bettween a Nytro and a turbo Cat I'd pick the Cat. As a trail sled for my style of riding the Cat would be a better choice with 40+ more hp and a more stable ride. I will not ride a Nytro. No Appex I move on. Its quite simple smaller is not always better. I want hp and wind protection, two things the nytro lacks.

I love my RX and I will buy an Appex but nothing less for me thanks. At least an Appex I can add a Yamacharger to and get the hp I want. Of course at an 2000 dollar increase in cost. Much less if Yamaha would step up and do it themselves.

I have rode retardedly overpowered deathtraps for years and don't see it that way. 150 to 180hp is not a deathtrap nor retarded. Its simply retoric from those who have no clue, so there for lash out against what they don't understand or cant afford. It helps to justify their choice in a lesser powered sled. ie anyone who buys a larger more powerful sled then them is retarded.

I hear this all the time from those who use thier sleds to pull a boggan to the lake and back for ice fishing. And for them they don't need anything bigger then a 440 class sled if that large.

Now I have a 600cc sled that is a perfect all round sled. It has speed and power that can keep you interested. 105hp and fun to ride, some would say its the perfect sled. I would agree up to a point. Its the perfect sled till you hit a lake or powerline. Then it becomes a ho hum sled. You slap your self in the head and say I could have had an Appex. IMHO please!

I've read about the new turbo, quite interesting and it seems that it would be a viable production model add-on. I think Yamaha is currently taking the wait-and-see approach to check on trail dependability and such. As the owner of BOTH a Nytro and an Apex, the Apex is by far the better trail sled. Although it is very powerful and is satisfactory as-is, I would like a little more midrange and top end power, the low end is already rediculous. I think a turbo Apex would sell, the weight is inconsequential because they are already 600lbs for crying out loud, what's another 25 or so? When you put my huge 300lb rear end on the sled, it's almost half a ton! I vote for the crank-driven turbo, it would be both dependable and cheap. Wig

I doubt that Yamaha is ever going to offer a stock turbo. The Arctic Cat turbo is having issues and the Polaris turbo is ridden with problems and it had to have a turbo just to make ANY power. The FST motor is simply a placeholder until Polaris decides which direction they are going to go (2 or 4 or both).
