Putting in a new suspension be it an M10 / Expert X or Cat. My question on the cat is...is there any top end loss? and how are they on the Hyfax wear as opposed to this monstrosity in there now. I got my track like a rubber band to stop ratcheting and the extrovert drivers would need to be installed if I keep it stock or do I need them with the Cat setup also??
:drink: :drink: HELP

Both my friend and I have 03 rx1's. He has a cat suspension. He has no loss in top end and High fax wear is much better than the stock suspension. Track ratcheting was much better with the cat suspension. He does not have the extrovert ? drivers I have a set of whall racing drivers that helped my stock suspension a lot. After I set my suspension I felt his was better only because of the added travel. I set my stock suspension soft and it helped with all types of riding. the cat suspension has a lot more travel and because of that it was better. I just bought a used M-10 and will be installing that for this season. I personally would not get the expert or the m-10 if you have the money. My friend got the cat suspension at a real good price and he likes it. I think it could be better if he put more time into setting it up. I am do not know what type of cat suspension it is either. there could be some better set ups for the cat suspension as well. I hope more people reply to this so you can get more information.

You can run the Cat looser as it tensions the track as it goes through the travel. No loss of MPH with it either. You do not need external drivers with the Cat as it NEVER ratchets! Mike Knapp#17

KnappAttack: I'm not trying to hijack this post, but since you were discussing ratching, have you had a chance to work with the new monoshock for 05? Will it be less likely to Ratchet? I hope to pick up the sled this weekend and plan on starting to take it apart to get ready for when the turbo gets here. Thanks John

Big Dog, Havn't worked with the 05, but I'd be willing to bet it will be prone to ratcheting like the ski-doo. Only the Cat has the proper setup so far, the rest lossen as the rear squats. I'll reserve judgement till I see it in action though. Mike Knapp#17

I have noted that some of the guys that have installed the cat skid have had to bend up the rails????? What if you have the 9" extrovert drivers installed already, do you think that the rails will still have to turn up 1/2 inch?

Cat skid works good,i have one for sale

Its funny how fast this stuff catches on,ha lickity split,he is the guy that turned me on to the cat skid,and i use to have cats so i new how good they work. He gave us the dimetions for adding to the rx1,i can say from testing myself that the cat skid does not slow it down,if anything it speeds it up cause of track angle. Mine wes set up by an arctic cat tech. who now lives in N.H. (glenn) is his name,he did it up w/fox clickers,and it works good,everything is new and good on 2000 skid. $400.00 takes it plus shipping. call Pete mcavoy at 207-247-6776 in Maine,or E-Mail at mcavoy@securespeed.us :tg:

Oooooooh yes it does. You're running it too tight if you never heard a GRIND once in a while.
........ now keep in mind, that I'm NO drag racer, and I'm refering to when you've got the throttle clamped in 6 ft. of powder and travelling 25 mph
....... the other good thing about all this is on Cats
LOOSE = FAST

loose might = fast with that skid but what about the studding? Will those nails ( on the ripsaw) do more damage under the skid? I have allready been there and I will tell you its a pain in the A$$ to fix things up especially if you got a rear mount turbo.

besides mnmsnowbeast, this is what this site is all about ehhhhhh, Yami riders unite.

'03 RX-1, '97 or '98 Cat ZR rear skid, and a studded ZRT stock track. NO ratcheting even while riding very hard on packed, groomed trails, and hard takeoffs while dragging. I heard about having to bend the rails, but I checked how the track contacted the front of the rails, and I didn't think it was necessary. 750+ miles later and there is no abnormal wear on the hyfax, and those were used....on the skid when I bought it. For price comaprison, a good ZR skid with remote adjuster just went for $255.25 on ebay. : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT

Best thing I did to my sled. No top end loss. GREAT suspension action and additional traction.

Jim

The way I set them in the chassis they will never ratchet. you do not have to bend the rails unless you are mounting it in some weird way. Loose track are not fast people! However, overly tight tracks are not either. It all has to do with susp geometry. Tight tracks are fast tracks when the geometry is correct. Take a look at any of my drag sleds and you will see very tight tracks.Mike Knapp#17
