Hey Guys,

I dropped my '05 Vector at the dealer yesterday for the clutch update, however he did not know anything about the CDI!! Anybody have the link for this bulletin? Are there other updates besides these?
Thanks in advance!

Paul

ER,

My dealer told me that Yamaha was replacing all RS series sled CDI boxes.

Clutch Rattle: There is a shim kit that is under warranty.

Some sleds had bad batch of jack-shafts installed. They need to be replaced under warranty.

Your dealer should have a list affected sleds of VIN numbers from Yamaha.

My Venture will be ready Monday.

Hope this helps...

Just got my 05 Vector CDI box replacement done yesterday - the recall bulletin the dealer had referred to it as "ignitor replacement". They checked their bulletin for serial numbers on the jackshaft recall and my sled wasn't on it. They did the clutch update for the rattle at the end of last season.

does anyone know if this is only for US or?

Nope, ALL RS-sleds!

My RS Venture TF had 3 updates done to it (before I traded it) ; jackshaft, clutch-rattle and CDI. I also got 4 extra small wheels to mount in my boggie... :D

Pays to have a good dealer...

Thanks for the replies guys. I picked my snowmobiles up on Saturday and the CDI's were replaced in both Vectors. Apparently my wife's sled did not register for the change, however the dealer got authorization to change it anyway... seems strange!! Anyway, I decide to let the dealer do the service as well, not going to happen again... Holy $hit, $420+tax later the two sleds were ready for the snow. That included new sliders for both sleds....did anybody get these replaced under warranty due to premature wear? Just wondering cause my last sled (2001 Venture) I never replaced the slides (8500 kms).

Did you say 450 bucks i thought the updates was free,so the cdi and clutch rattle fix cost us money???? :bling

The cost was to service my two vectors, ie change oil, clean carbs, sync carbs, grease, adjust track, etc as well as slider replacement... I figured since they will be doing the warranty I would get them to do the service as well. Lesson learned, it won't happen again!

Picked up my sled today and was very pleased.

Jackshaft replaced, heavier rear spring, CDI "igniter",Clutch shim kit, worn weighs found and replaced, and clutch and parking brake adjustment was covered under warranty.

Carb pilot jet cleaning, and carb synchronization was covered by my dealer as a good will gesture.

Sled doesn't rattle and is much smoother.

My dealers mechanic came back from a mechanics symposium and work shop held in Wisconsin week before last.

Apparently Yamaha talked about customer service and the advantages of being customer friendly.

It really was apparent. Nice change. ;)!

were the worn clutch wieghts and brake adjustment covered under warranty? Whats the deal with the parking brake?

What exactly does the CDI do? I thought it had something to do with the Throtle override.....Can this be why I can't get mine to start after the long summer? Major backfiring after hours of ing.

wont start in the summer because its been sitting too long without statrting and carb bowls are dry

Thats what I was thinking but I cranked the !@#$!@$# out of it for about 2 hours. Put my hand over the openings to "choke" each carb and there was plenty of fuel going to the carbs. It was backfiring like a mother....Just couldn't get her to catch.

Yama-crazy,

I gave the dealer a list of items that needed some adjustment. Parking brake was not engaging firm enough, so they tightened it up too.

Worn weights, I too am at a loss, dealer found worn weights and associated the wear with some vibration in the clutch. Works for me. It was covered.

The carb cleaning issue: My Pilot jets got gummed up over the summer while the sled was in storage. I noticed a trend with others experiencing the same problem.

I made the case: I did everything by the book by fogging the engine, stabilized the fuel etc, etc. Yet the pilot jets gummed up.

My point, Yamaha needs to come up with better RS series motor summer storage procedures, such as draining the fuel tank and the bowls in the carbs and possibly leave it dry. If not, year after year the same result is going to occur.

Ergo not out of my pocket $$$. So my dealer picked up the labor/cleaning cost.

Pilot jets are much smaller in a 4 stroke motor than 2 smokes, and gum up much easier.

Yamaha can blame it on gasoline shelf life of two weeks, additives varnishing up etc. O.K. Yamaha, then find a solution to the summer storage problem. We should not have to pay for a storage problem. Yamaha should have answers not excuses.

Its the little things like that, where the dealer is willing to go the extra mile, that gives me the customer satsfaction I personally am looking for.

The dealer knows I will be back. ;)!

Yamaha expects to be the industry leader in the next four years. If so, they need to raise the bar to an all around higher standard.
