Both Jackshaft bearing's (top) are bad (only inside chain case), looks like it got hot, they were missing 3-4 of the balls, my question is, can the drive and jack shaft stay in place to just take the whole chain case off to replace the bearing's?
I got the chain case cover off and bearing and seal is replaced in that, but now i have the main chain case still in the sled, can this be removed with both shafts still in?

this is a 2007 yamaha apex rtx with reverse

Great, i think i will replace the bottom drive shaft bearing as well.
thank you.

If you are that far torn down check the jackshaft bearing behind the secondary! Pop a seal off the bearing and look it over very carefully. You are right there to change that one if questionable in any way!

I just replaced that one 2 weeks ago along with the drive shaft bearing on that side, but yes good idea.
I think i have found out what has happened, i put a new track on my sled, put the case back to gether, and added just enough chaincase oil to bring it up to the low mark on the reverse marking on the stick, with it pushed in, so i think i did not add enough oil, therefore it got hot, I WILL make sure i put 8.5 or or more ounces in the chaincase this next time.

Everything went together rather nicely, added about 9 oz of mobile-1 75 synthetic oil, started it on the lift and everything good so far, now we need to get some more snow to test it.

make sure you put some locktite on the bottom nut in chain case if you don't it will work its way loose and cut a hole in your chain case cover... ask me how I know...:o|

yeah, don't go by dipstick marks, I just add the required amount (250ml) each oil change, Yamaha makes a 250ml bottle of their chain case lube for single use for this reason. Although I use amsoil across the board for lube.
Cheers
