Hey guys,

Just getting ready to do my fall maint. on the Sidewinder. I just wanted to talk about some chaincase maintenance. Every year I rip it all apart and clean it up real good, usually end up replacing the upper gear as the bushing seems to wear out fast. I was just wondering how long everyone is planning on running the stock chain and gears before replacing with new as preventative maintenance. Right now I have 5300KM on my sled, last year I cranked up the boost and was running the Hurricane 240R and 270R tunes. I could imagine with all this power it has to be hard on the chaincase components.
Thanks

I'm a little excessive probably for most but I replace the chain every 3000 miles on my turbo sleds. Gears unless wear is prone stay. Upper bushing every 3000 as well for me. Which is on average each season or every other year on bad seasons

Check shift fork ends bushing, spray clean interior of case making sure magnets are clean on driven shaft and up by shift fork.

I have 7200 kms on mine. I plan on changing out the bearings, chain and top gear at the least. See what it looks like when my new track gets in.

Ive tightened my chain many times now, so I would imagine its stretched a bit.

Thanks, I will probably just end up changing out the top gear and the drive chain just to be safe. Have greased the drive and jackshaft bearing every year so they should be good for a while yet, hopefully.

Make sure you check your chain tensioner out. The little screws that hold the wheel in place can wear and cause a bigger problem..

Just started working on my sled today....leaking oil tank, going back to stock gearing among other things. Shocked to see how much my chain stretched in under 1000 miles. I set it to 1 turn out at 550 miles, now at 1450 miles it was 4.5 turns out! I guess 270hp is hard on chains.

When i tossed the 21 tooth back in after, I only have about 5 threads left on adjuster bolt when set up at 1 turn out. Looks like in a few hundred more miles Ill be out of adjuster. Had lots on the bolt with the 22 tooth, but with the 21 nope.

I haven't had any issues with my oil tank leaking yet but since I will have the chaincase apart I may remove the oil tank and reseal it with something. What do you think would be the best kind of sealant to use? How many miles did you end up getting on the sled last year Dan? It would be nice to get another year out of the chain but I don't really feel like having do rip the sled apart mid season to work on it. Have about 5300km on mine right now.

I had a very low season last yr due to sucky winter. If it wasn't for one last trip to Qc I would not even had got 1000 miles...grrrr

A few guys say ultra black RVT with its maximum oil resistance formula, so that is sorta what i was leaning toward but would love to hear anyone who has other brands/types that have worked well. It would be nice to do this ONCE and only once. I know my dealer uses the grey yamabond stuff, says it worked well on all but one sled where they had to use something else to get that one sled to seal.

Rocker Dan, New, the adjuster bolt has 6-threads showing in most cases, your 5-threads showing at 1-turn out is good. My chain lasted around 9500km before there was no more adjustment to be had, stock gearing.

The microfiche I bielieve specs Yamabond 6. I guess any quality sealant with superior oil resistance should be good.

Hi Guys

Did mine last year and only put 250 miles on it after the change. Dont know if I should do it again as it has so little use. Suggestions?
