chain case oil level

i had a gear oil smell when riding at high speeds this season,the level was dead on,tonight i changed the oil,bought the yammi 250 ml and poured the whole thing like the mechanic said,now my level,is a bit too high,went for a short rip,no more smell at high speeds,i'm confused,can it hurt something if i have a little more oil

I run 8.5 oz of Mobil one 75W-90. It goes up the bottom arrow of the standard line. My sled has reverse but I like a little extra oil and a lot of people on this forum run the same level.
