Chain case oil?

What does everyone use in their chaincase, I am going to change mine, the book says to use the normal 80/90 gear case oil, my dealer told me to use 5W-30 motor oil. I was thinking about trying to find some synthetic.

Amsoil series 2000 chaincase oil. Amsoil provides a protective coating on all moving parts to help protect even with minimum or no lubrication. I know a guy that ran this lube in his chaincase. He broke his drive shaft and had to remove the chaincase to repair the shaft, after reassembly of the chaincase he had forgot to fill the case with chaincase oil and the next week went on a bagger trip of 1100 miles. He never noticed the empty chaincase until he went to replace the fluid for the following season. after careful inspection of all parts inside of chaincase we discovered No damage and put the case back together and he has 2000 miles on this year with no problems!

I don't mean to get off topic, but that begs a question, Why hasn't Amsoil, Castrol, Mobile 1, etc. kept there prices where they were instead of following the petroleum products up in price? They are not petrol products are they?? They could have taken over the lubrication market but they chose to raise their prices the same way the oil mfg's did.

Last year I had the lower bolt in my chaincase come loose and poke a hole in the cove, it was clear out of oil when I noticed, or I should say when I decided to see where the gear lube smell was coming from. I had ridden abot 100 miles smelling it. Needless to say the inside looked like new. This was with the same oil as Mark talks about in the case. It works

Mainly because eveyone else raised the price of the ingerdients in syn oil, and freight went sky hi. They are less respnsible than the big oil companies who show billion dolar profits. If you look at most syn oil co, there profit is down just like the rest of the hard working stiffs.

I use Mercury high performace gear oil....its good for a 1000hp boat, its good for my Nytro

I have a Merc Opti, I use Mercs lower unit oil, but I don't run my boat in -20F temps, so thats out for my sled.
Sledheadd, I looked at your website but could not find the chaincase oil that was mentioned.

I've used Redline Synthetic shockproof ultralightweight gear oil for the past 3 years. The stuff is thinner than reg gear oil but protects better. It also reduces friction in the chaincase because it is so much thinner.

Yes I do, my Warrior had 3000 miles when I bought it and switched it over and my wifes Rage has had it in since the begining. at the end of the year I am going to send samples in for analasys and hope to post the results.

I used to only use Klotz Chain case lube, VERY tenatious stuff, it is also loaded with graphite, in my old sled and was happy with it, but I do use Amsoil stuff now in my vector.

OH- Amsoil Powersports oil is 0w-40, not 0w-30. I use that too. Use amsoil in everything I own-from my chainsaw to my motorcycles, to my jeep. Only stuff to use in my opinion.

Made a few visits to the Lake George/ Champlain region in the 80's and 90's very nice, must be some great riding up there.

Last year I had my dealer do an end of season on my sled and I am sure they put in the Yamaha chain case lube. I have always used the Amsoil 200 in my Viper and plan to put it in my Rage when I put my sled away for the summer this year. G.B.
