my friends new apex had his chaincase pack it in last night.
got so hot it started a fire. 1800 miles

i have a new apex and was wondering is this a lack of maintenance
or not checking the chain tension or is it a design flaw?
i ask because if there is a cure or system to follow i would like to know
and follow it. any insight to the chaincase issue will be appreciated.
if possible ,explain in detail.
thank you

In all these posts, very little is said about the potential for the lower oil seal to fail and the oil leaking out via that seal. Does everyone feel that there is no way the oil could get out through that seal? I know that once the case goes south, it is hard to tell what failed first. But, I am not convinced that the driveshaft's bearing seal could not be a leak path. I know that most people feel that the bearing is isloated from the chaincase fluid. Is this really a fact?

The bearing is NOT isolated from the chaincase fluid. That seal is hardly what I would call a seal - oil flows past it fairly easily, just not the big chunks of debris.

Most oil leak is caused by having the face seal pinched, which allows oil to flow out while in motion. Could also be a dealer prep issue. Chaincase oil should be checked occasionally and replaced when dirty.

The main seal behind the driveshaft bearing is a real good seal. Very unlikely that its leaking (but not impossible).
