Took the new apex er out for a ride tonight. Ran great until about 24 miles. Then I hear a ratteling coming from the drive train. We go about another mile and check it out. Somehow I poked a hole in the chain case. Went through the plastic on the machine and busted a hole in her. Gears were making a pretty bad sound in there. What do you think is shot and how much do you think this is going to cost to fix?

This was from hitting something underneath? Or do you think something was bad from assembly, and forced it's way out?

Chaincase, cover, chain and gears..........$300.00

ST98 you should change the name of the thread, to EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS!

I think this is one of the 3 only downfalls of the new sled, handwarmers, chaincase with zero protectios, and the track tearing the hell out of the tunnel.

As for the one that I can maybe fix, the Apex will be here tomorrow, and as soon as it is, I will be working on a skid plate. I am not saying this is the end all fix all snake oil wondercure, but I am confident I can get us some more protection were it is needed.

As I said already, I can make them right now just flat, if guys want fancy or ribs molded in, its not gonna happen anytime soon.

where are you located, and how fast can you get the chain case to me? I may be able to get it fixed for you.

Sort of off topic-skid plate

Could a protective plate/guard for the chaincase be made to use along with the Yamaha skid plate as many already have one of those?

was reading hcs that he said it came from in side the chainchase after he got home looked at it. says something failed inside came through chaincase out the plastic.

Open my eyes

Well I was wrong. It did not poke a hole through the plastic or even touch it. It was from the inside. It looks like a chewed up bolt or something and that shot out the chaincase. It was covered in snow last night and I thought it was a hole in the plastic. I aploogize for the wrong info. I should of looked at it more closely than thinking the doomsday scenario. From what I can see of the bottom gear it looks fine. The hole is the size of a half dollar. It was hot enough last night that when I put snow on the adjuster bolt it sizzled. I don't know what that means.

Well sounds like you'll be able to warranty it. Who knows maybe a fluke thing and something got caught in there on the assembly line.

Sometimes surgical instruments are left in humans, very possible something left in there from production that shouldn't have. Let us know if it's covered easily by the dealer/Yammi.
