How do I go about changing the seal on drive chain housing on my 2006 Apex ER? I have a pretty bad leak.
Also need to tighten the track, how do I this?
Thanks for any help.

I'd call your dealer for UPDATES give him your serial # so he can run a check on it, '06 had faulty CHAINCASE COVERS, do not run your sled till you get this fixed.

Adjusting your track tension is detailed in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, you can download a non-printable version for your sled from Yamaha's website

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/myyam ... there.aspx

Pulling the chaincase cover on a Yamaha with reverse is a little tricky. I definitely would start with the dealer on this, and rather than trying to fix the 06 cover, I'd replace it with the 07-and-later cover. If you attempt this yourself, be careful to get the reverse fork reinstalled carefully, and be VERY careful not to lose the little spring that sits in the reverse idler.

There is a chaincase step-by-step with photos on the Totallyamaha site in the service tips section. Try http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles ... 20prt1.htm

Is this a recall? I have a 06 Attak and have had no issues yet although I know others have. I don't want to pay for a updated cover if there is nothing wrong with the one I got.

Not a recall. The way it was explained to me is that it's not even a "service bulletin". However, apparently if you take your 06 into your Yamaha dealer and tell them that you have a chaincase leak, they'll submit it to their Yamaha service rep to see if they'll replace it with the updated chaincase cover. I know of guys who have pulled that off and I know guys that were denied. I'm not quite clear on who pays what, but IIRC, if the sled is out of warranty then the owner is supposed to pay labor and Yamaha covers the cost of the part. ICBW about that, but all it ought to take to clear up is a call to the dealer.

Personally, I'd be nervous about a chaincase cover that has a relatively higher potential to leak. If and when it does (miles out on the trail, of course) and the chaincase oil goes away, we're talking some $ignificant damage. From what people have posted here in the past, the first warning you usually get is the smell of burnt oil and a horrible grinding noise from the front right side of the sled. Yamaha contends, officially, that this is not nearly a widespread-enough problem to warrant a service bulletin or recall.

This has been discussed a lot here on TY and a search ought to provide a lot more information.
