I think that this topic has been around before but on my 05 Vector with mid 4000 miles, my exhaust donuts were junk and needed to be replaced.
Compression was good on all 3 jugs...will post results tomorrow.
Yami extended warranty covered it.....I admit I was surprised that they did.

That sucks. I have over 3k miles on my 2008 Vector, maybe I should replace mine. I don't have the extended warranty either.

My sled has 4820 miles on it. I'll post pics of the old donuts later today or tomorrow.
Compression on all 3 cylinders was 185. Intake and exhaust valve clearance was also check and found to be good.

Thanks undecided. If we're not changing rings on a 2-stroke, we're changing exhaust donuts (probably more costly and involved to boot!) on our 4 strokers. But for the first 3000 miles, they seem to hold up pretty good with no maintenance!

Ok, before I go all out and replace my exhaust donuts, has anyone gone over 6k miles before replacement? And if I don't replace them this year, will I damage my y-pipe if I happen to wait until the 6k mark? I seriously don't want to have to replace them this fall unless it is necessary to prevent a loss of performance or to negate future exhaust damage.

FWIW - I'm wondering if the loss of back pressure caused a slight drop in MPG. I know my M10 pulls down MPG, and last years clutch rebuild made a big difference, but I still can't pull down anywhere close to 19-20 mpg.
I think replacing the donuts isn't too hard of a job, but I'll let others chime in.
I was worried about the compression readings because of my mpg not being the greatest.

My 05 Rage has 12,000 miles on it and the doughnuts just started making noise (a rattle) last season with 10,000 + miles. I don't know what if any damage there is to the pipe because I haven't taken it apart yet. I plan on getting to it in the next few weeks so i'll post back with pics.

My 06 Vector GT started rattling at about 4500 miles. I put another 1500 miles (Canada trip) and then took it apart. One was there and in good shape. One was there but very beat up. One was not there at all.
People complain about it but I seriusly don't know what the big deal is. Its not hard to do at all. They are about 12.00 bucks apiece. If you do it and run into problems, post up!! You will definitly get help.

Was hearing a rattle coming from under the tunnel, so after reading several posts on exhaust donuts, decided that I better take a look. Have 6000 miles on 06 Vector. All three donuts were nothing but braided wire, so I'm glad that I changed them. No apparent damage to anything as the Y-pipes are stainless steel on the vectors, and not titanium.

Thanks guys, I will change mine this fall while I have the rear suspension out for a shock rebuild / revalve. I need to put together my list of parts for Port Yamaha, they are really great.

My 2007 RS Venture already had to have the primary rebuilt, exhaust donuts changed, and engine rebuild. Exhaust valves cracked, poor idling, poor gas mileage, etc. It needed new exhaust valves, new guides, new head.
Good luck with your low compression.

Re: cause
I haven't been into mine yet but it could be the constant torquing of the engine on and off the throttle wearing out the doughnuts. I guess the way someone rides has a lot to do with it.
