Has anyone tried to install a cigarette lighter plug like the ones on the Apex into an RX-1? I have been searching the internet for one to try, but cannot find a decent one that would mount to the dash and has the weather proof cover.
Anyone else tackled this feat?

I have seen several aftermarket lighter plugs with covers. Radio Shack offers at least 1 with a cover, although its not exact a high-end product. Try boating shops...many accessories for boats come with waterproof covers.

Yamaha has some oem ones as LB mentioned. I got mine from an autoparts store. It has a cap, but is not waterproof. It is mounted under my hood, almost directly below the speedo. I used it for my gps which was mounted nest to the speedo, so the power cord didn't get pulled when I opened the hood.

Bought mine at Wal-Mart, with a weather proof cap. Wired it directly to the battery useing 12 gauge wire and 15 amp inline fuse. Use it for my GPS, MP3 player, and phone hook up.

I installed mine in Oct of 02, in my 03 RX1 MTN. It still works very well today. I have it wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse holder.

Because of the potential for a high current draw, you may want to consider going directly to the battery or at least to the battery jumper cables. Any extra wiring should be fused as close to the source as possible.
