Well it was a good season (2,700 miles) for the first season on my xtx and im pretty sure she is done till next december. So what do you guys use to clean your clutches. I am getting a clutch kit this summer so does it even pay to clean them? Input welcome

What you just get a rag and wipe it down? Or do you tear the clutch apart

Secondary comes off in 2 seconds then take it apart and throw in the dishwasher.

wifes got to love that...

the primary is what need the most service usually....

compresses air and some 0000 steel wool... clean the towers.....and sliding surfaces....when done it should move very smoothly with no spring in place...no side to side cocking (indicates wear of slider pucks or cover bushing)

Ive ised a fine scotch sanding block with the clutch on a lathe to redress the sheaves...

on the secondary use the 0000 to clean and polish the helix bushing...the helix ramps...and the hub...replace ramp slider pucks if worn

I dont have dishwasher there feller

I take mine off and apart then hit the car wash and use the engine cleaner, they come out nice and clean...

If you're using your dishwasher, be sure that the compartment for the rinse aid, such as "Jet Dry", is empty. It adds a coating which is wax like and not very good for your clutch sheaves. That's your Martha Stewart tip of the day.

I usually take the clutches apart and scrub them down with hot soapy water, then finish them off by wiping the sheaves down with acetone.

I used to use acetone...but was told by an old tuner they are too hard on the clutches...I suppose If I needed a solvent ...brake cleaner would be my choice
