when you guys say soap...do you guys mean liquid dish soap?

Dish soap is best imo as most have a de-greaser in them which does a much better job that just car wash soap.

ok this is what i did and worked out great....
400 gritt, then soap and scotch pad....then rinse...dry scotch pad then blow dry...also washed new belt

What is gain ed by washing a new belt? Is this something lots do? As I have never heard of it and if there is a real benefits my spare should be done..

removes mold release compound so belt grabs harder without slipping.

I use a Scotch Brite pad and brake cleaner.

I then clean my belts with Simply Green and a Scotch Brite pad.

G.B.

I just scuff the belt with 400 grit sand paper since thats what i use on my clutch.

Hmmm they call it sand paper because it has grit attached to the paper. That grit rubs off when used. So now you have a belt with 400 grit embeded in it. Not a good idea.

Same with a aluminum clutch. Last thing I would ever use is sandpaper on it.

I was always taught that sand paper was a no no. All the guys I know in the racing scene just wipe down clutches and belt with acetone. I do the same with the trail sleds. Quick, easy, and effective.
