Anyone have experience lowering the clutch engagement for the Nytro? I have the Ulmer stg 1 clutch kit for my 2009 xtx. It works great but i want lower engagement so its easier moving around and general low speed smoothness. I currently have the orange pink orange spring which is 30kg preload This is the lowest preload Yamaha sells for the long type of spring. Its 33mm force is 137kg and is 3.2 kg/mm. I was considering trying a spring that has a lower force rate so it pinches that belt and moves ever so slightly with less force. however the clutch weights will need to be adjusted as well.

Im used to Polaris clutching with the starting and final rates which controls engagement and final rates/rpm and assumed Yamaha springs work the same. However with 30kg being the lowest offered im stuck on what springs are sold by Schmidt bros for the comfort kit or BOP for lower engagement.

Another component integral to achieving lower RPM engagement is the rollers. You might attain what you are looking for by installing 14.5mm rollers.

Schmidt brothers comfort clutch kit works great and also improves fuel mileage. It changes the spring and rollers in the primary. You can also just get the spring from barnofparts.com.

yeah I just wonder how far off the rest of my clutching will be then. Is the Spring from BOP the same as Schmidt's kit? minus the rollers? My rollers are in decent shape so was going to wait until the off season to swap them.

Best thing to do is call Ulmer, he can set you up best. 14.5 mm rollers will lower the engagement and Allen can advise you how to re-adjust your set up

ive contacted him but this time of the year its normally 3+ days when he gets around to questions. I dont blame him when ppl are knocking at his door for wrenching and performance work.

I've been tempted to try a set of 14.5 mm rollers, I have same clutching as OP.
If you do try the 14.5mm rollers with your clutch setup please post back with results.

Snowbird...if you put the 14.5 mm rollers in you'll most likely need to adjust the tip weight.

I have the same setup as the op and at wot I redline for a split second. I'm also interested in the rollers in my 09 fx I had a bender clutch kit and maybe it's the difference from the short track to my 13 xtx but I felt like my bender kit pulled alot harder. I also am looking at schmidt but idk if I'll gain anything at all

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Please post what you find out. It's hard to believe that 1mm would make that much difference.

well it changes the contact point of the weights and apparently does a ton to overall rpm behavior.

well got ahold of Ulmer via email. said to try the Orange-yellow-orange primary spring which i cant find a part number or anything for anywhere. maybe he flipped the colors or something.
