Clutch Kit or GPS ?

RXwonder, welcome back to the sport! I think you decision is sound. If you wife truly loves you she'll stick around sled or no sled. If not? A turbo would be a good substitute (Hey, I was just kidding).

jts srx the break-in on the RX-1 makes a big difference with the stock clutching. The sled was very sleepy to begin with and the heelclickers woke it up by increasing the rpm's to 10,300 which gave me a nice increase in performance. I decided that I did not care for the higher engagement with that set-up and went back to the stock set-up at about 1600 miles. I was surprised at the increase in performance. The stock set-up was easily as good as the heel clicker set-up and mine was dialed in. After 3100 miles there is no comparison at all. My last ride my friend with his modified Ski-doo was amazed at how my stocker would run with him. Incidently his Ski-doo beats a stock Ski-doo 800 by several lengths. It is very well tuned with dyno-port pipe, porting, bored carbs, and clutching. He is an excellant tuner and consitently gets good results from his wrenching. The low engagement and very good fuel consumption is an added bonus. This is not to say that your set-up woundn't be faster, it very well might be, but I think it would surprise you to see what mine is doing in stock form. It would be fun to do some 1/4 mile runs with you next winter to compare. If you are faster I would like to try your set-up. Where do you do most of your riding?
 
UPsledder: I'm sorry the stock clutching is a joke!!! The motor is tight but your thery make no sence. If your motor is stronger at 3500 miles then you shift rpm should have gone up with the Heel Clickers in with all this power increase. If your sled runs as good with the stock setup then you must have had a poor clicker setup. The clickers flat out make a minimum of 10hp more to the track.


I've run several stock RX-1's and they weren't within ten sleds. Now I also ran Bluebyyou2000 who had his dialed in a little better when I went from dalton weights to hitters and his sled was faster on the top. We ran side by side for a long stretch and then he's slowly pull away. The stock clutching is a joke sorry.
 
JTSSRX, why do you say "don't do that" regarding the White Knuckle exhaust? I'm very curious to know why. I have heard nothing but good things about it and have thought about getting one myself. If you have some experience with them I'm all ears. Powder Blue
 
Jtssrx I see you live in Michigan as I do. Do you ride in the U.P.? I would really like to run along side you to compare. If you can beat my sled by 10 lengths or even three, I would be interested in trying that set-up. Ten lengths faster than my sled would be something. Not at all trying to be sarcastic but I would like to see how they compare. What r.p.m. does your sled engage at? What kind of gas mileage do you get on yours?
 
UP Sledder. The stock arms in the RX-1 have to flat of profile. Profiles such as ones found on Heavy Hitters, Heel Clickers, Daltons, and Polaris weights are designed to maximize belt squeeze. Yamaha has been building sleds for a very long time and I can honestly tell you none of them had very good clutching out of the box. The single best investment per net gain is Clutching, especially on a Yamaha. What jtssrx is saying it quite true. With the holeshot you get with Heavy Hitters and there consistant performance throught the entire powerband, it will simply crush the stock setup. Just my $.02...BBY
 
I appreciate what you are saying Blue-by-you but I too had the heelclickers set-up and yes it did improve the sled quite a bit and it was set-up well. But the stock set-up with 3100 miles is considerably faster and quicker than the heelclicker set-up was. I have done a lot of clutching as well on both cats and yamaha's and I do agree that yamaha clutching in the past as well as cats left a lot to be desired but I am impressed with how mine is running after the 2500 mile mark. My point is only that I would like to run along side Jts next winter and see if there is room for improvement with mine. If he can beat mine by 10 lengths or even three I would like to try his set-up if not it would be imformative for both of us. I would ask you also what your engagement is and what kind of fuel mileage you are getting? Also I would like to know how many miles you and Jts have on your sleds? Thanks for any imformation you two would be willing to pass along.

I have 1200 Miles, fuel mileage is 15-17 MPG, and engagement is 3800. I do have a question for you, when your sled had appx 2500 miles then you switched back to the stock weights? and if so, did you take the time to make changes with the Heel clickers, did you experiment with them? Also, did you use timing lights and a radar gun, if so, please let me know the ET and MPH difference. Thanks alot...BBY
 
Exhaust

If there was big HP gains with exhaust CPR would be building it. Instead he's building a turbo kit. You say that's more money but Jeffs not stupid. He relizes not every one would want a turbo or could afford it. However he could build a 500.00 set of pipes for the RX-1 nad make pipe money on them.


lets just say when Terry has his sled dialed in on ashfault I'm going to try to talk him into running the stock exhaust. I have a feeling he'll be faster.

This is not a knock on white knuckle. I want to see the differnence for myself and I think NOS PRO will show us all. The White Knuckle stuff might be a big gain!! Lets just wait and see.
 
I have run against turk many times last year down on the 2 mile strait on the river . After mine was finnished breackin i noticed very little difference between his and mine . he got a better holeshot whitch I think has more to do with the 1 1\4 track as compared to the stock track on mine . at top end mine has always been faster .
