I installed the Ulmer clutch kit and noticed my secondary clutch was very grimey and rough looking so I took the seconadry apart to clean. While reinstalling I realized I may not have installed the kit right the first time. During the instructions after the spring is set and the new helix is on the spring, it says to twist the helix clockwise until its lined with the holes to put the bolts back on. Does this require a lot of force to twist the helix? I tried briefly and it seams like it puts a lot of twist and pressure into the spring. Is this how it should be? I can line up the helix if I turn the sheave to the left just a little and it lines up but it doesnt put any twist into the spring. I want to make sure I'm doing this right and not break anything if I'm not supposed to put that much force and twist into the helix.

You gotta turn clockwise & yes; it should be hard to do.

Thanks Turk. If you dont turn it and install it would it cause backshifting issues and also belt problems? These are what I have been having and guessing it's because I never twisted it during the first install. Also at the very end once the bolts are on but not all the way on firm it says to turn so its not touching the button. Whats the button?

I'm doing it right now then haha one time I almost had it and then it spun around and I ended up with a small cut on my finger. Now I know its supposed to be that way so Ill try harder and get it on there and not worry about breaking something. Thanks for the quick replies

There are 3 buttons on the secondary sheave that the helix slides on to open and close the secondary. When you are twisting the helix to line up the bolts, you have to be aware/careful not to allow the helix to break off a button or two.

are those the 3 black squares?
