Hey everyone. I just swicthed over to yamaha and have been doing lots of reading but I want other peoples 2 cents. I bought a 2009 fx nytro and was thinking about adding a clutch kit. I'm not looking for anything crazy (not Racing) more something that is a great trail kit and to wake the sled up a bit more. What would you recommend?

Also do the intakes (filters)really work? also I seen intake covers that are suppose to claim add some hp do they work? Thanks everyone I was a doo guy before this so it's all new to me.

Both your questions have been covered in depth & are in the nytro section.

If you are looking for just tweaked clutching, the Turk has a nice little " better than stock " setup..just search " clutching " and " Turk" as the author.

Filters do make a gain in the mid and a bit on top, check out Ulmer Racing's site for info on them. There is alot of controversy of modding the airbox...Ulmer had no luck but others claim gains but don't have anything to back it...Ulmer can back is claims. I'm pretty sure you need a fuel programmer with filters though.

You don't need a programmer with the filters but my XTX started to pop or almost miss once I put the K&N's on (from what I read all Nytro's have this problem it's just some are more noticable then others). I just bought a PC3 and header which I hpoe will solve the popping because it near drove me nuts last winter.

Ulmer Clutch kit and filters with a PCIII is the way to go. Adds 5hp from the filters which gives a good boost on the bottom to mid range. The clutch kit will clean up the belt slip from the bottom end from the stock clutching and will allow it to pull way better then stock on the bottom and mid range with maybe 1-2mph up top. Depending on your weight a gear change will help alot on top end.

upei93 The popping you hear could be your exhaust donuts. Check to see if there wore out when you put your header on. There was nothing left of mine when I took mine apart last summer. Worth looking at while you have it apart

Hey Mike the guys got 4 posts and is new to the board. Cut him some slack!!!

Yes there are some good clutch packages out there. Ulmer is very good. There is a guy selling a really good Heel clicker setup. I can't think of his name. The Filters do work very well. I have filters, header,PC111, Ignition Module, and spark plugs. My sled made 146.3 HP with the stock can and 150 with an aftermarket can. Stock these sleds make in the 130's.

You are most likely right...she will be going into the dealer for warrantee work on the ball joints and bushings so why not the donuts...I figure another year and then I'll order aftermarket to fix those problems. BTW my D&F's with Turk's set up also cleaned up the belt slip...I hated the stock set up but you can't beat ulmers kit for set it and forget it...my buddy has it and his sled rocks.

If you are going to do a clutch kit and want to do something else...if you have the money... just do it all right the first time. Get a package from ulmer, header, PC3, K&N filters, clutch kit, and a excell muffler or just run the stock if you want to stay legal and keep it quiet.

You're gonna wanna do it anyways eventually!

You may also want to check out Schmidt Bros. Motorsports for a clutch kit. Chris Schmidt has raced sleds in his past and was a top qualifier in one of his races. He is a great guy to work with, and I'm sure he could share information about his clutches with you.

Ulmer worked for me. I used my buddy's sled as a base line and it help. Helped through out the whole range.

Excell header is going on soon.

Can't wait for winter.

My Sled also Started popping when i put the K&N's On..sounds like a lean spot to me but im not possitive.Im going with a complete Excell exhaust and PC3..Does Ulmer program the Power Commander or are there setups that i can download..I've only used a Boondocker box in the past so the PC is new to me..sorry to get off topic.

Ulmer will send you the PC3 mapped for the mods you are running...plug it in and go!
