I just finished installing a Bender Racing clutch kit on my '06 Apex GT. I am pretty sure I have it installed the correct way, but I've never messed with clutches before. Is there a place or a site I can visit to get my head wrapped around how to adjust and play with different settings.
The secondary came wih a new helix and spring. My main question is the ammount of pre tension I put I put on the spring. I compared the new set up to what the stock was set at, and I think I have it figured out. The new spring is set at 3 on the fixed, and 0 on the helix, which seemed to have more tension than stock (white spring with blue stripe). Does this sound right? It has a white spring
I also put the primary together juat as it came out of the box. It has the heel-clicker weights, and came with extra screws and washers, and an orange spring with shims). I would like to learn what to do to adjust it if necessary, and if anybody knows how I have this set up now- what will I expect it to run like?

I suggest giving Benders a call on Monday. 3 & 0 does seem a bit odd to me. I am used to 3 & 3 or 6 & 1 which gives you 60 - 70 degrees of twist. I suppose you could run it. If it has got shift-out at ~ 10,500, it should be close. No instructions came with the stuff, eh? That is good to know!

It did have an instruction sheet, but I think it was made for someone who has a little experience. It also looks as if it were photocopied a hunderd times. I need "Clutching for Dummies". We are getting snow now, so hopefully I will be able to try it out tomorrow. When you talk about "shift out", what does that mean? How will I know if it is right or close? I'll call Bender, but I still think if I can understand how it is supposed to work, I can easilly work on it and be able to tune it.

If I remember correctly, in the past Bender used to us with Polaris secondary springs in his clutch kits. These springs have different offset on tangs compared to Yamaha. Anyhow, (0,3) setings does sound right.. Just call them to confirm..

Yes it is ofset. It did seem to have more tension than before.
The instructions do say for trail use to set at 0,3, but my question is where can I go to learn how to play with the settings? I'd like to know what to adjust it to if it diesn't feel right?

We finally got enough snow to take the sled out, and I've got to say, the clutch kit is awesome!!!! It took me about 45 minutes to install (at 3:00 A.M.) and worked flawlessly right out of the box. I did call Bender before I rode, and he did say that I had it in the right holes for trail and this thing will really scream now!
Now I need to find out what the best studs/pattern(s) are! Granted, our trails were crap, and every sled in the county was out beating them up, but traction was definately an issue!
I know alot of guys have great things to say about Ulmer, but I would recommend the Bender setup anyday!
