So, I just had a chance to drive my Nytro after installing my Ulmer clutch kit. Makes a bid difference in my opinion. However, I now have developed a squeal coming from the clutches at idle. The belt is newer (less than 200 mles) and the clutches were cleaned when i did the install.
It also sems to be generating alot of heat, or at least more than prior to the install.

Prior to the kit install, I had neither the noise or heat.
Suggestions?

thanks all. :o|

The squeal is your belt a little tight. You can ajust if you do not like the noise. My new belt squeals but I like a tight belt, have been waiting for my belt to wear for two seasons now it just wont wear still squeals.
As for the heat I would guess spring settings alowing belt to slip?

Thanks kitchen,
The secondary is set at 6:1 as per Allen Ulmers suggestion. I also believe all shims are correctly place. What/how do i adjust on the clutchs to eliminate these two issues. My belt is seated about 1/8 above the top lip of the secondary at idle.

There are small shims on the back side of the secondary behind three small bolts, remove the shims and re-install the bolts.

Thats correct, you must remove the secondary to do this. By removing the washers it exposes more of the bolt. When you put the bolts back it will open the clutch just enough to drop the belt down a bit. The squeal will go away.

The washers on my Rage are 1mm or 0.039" thick. I found 3 each 0.020" washers, that took the squeel away and still keeps the belt as tight as possible. Tight belt keeps you starting in low gear, loose belt is like starting in 2nd. Yamaha also sells .5 mm or 0.020" washers.

belt squeal

thanks everone for your input.
I will be making the adjustments later today and then testing.

Witch clutch is the warmer . What ever one is warmer is slipping u will need to add or sub. wieght . What is the rpms at

the secondary is the source of the noise and squeal.
I did not get a chance to ride yesterday after taking out the shims so unsure yet if the issues are repaired or what my RPM are running at. In the brief running I did I never did any long WOT runs, mainly just blipping the throttle, steady throttle riding and short high speed bursts. RPMs and engagement never seemed off at any point.

Should be able to get out next weekend though if not sooner.

thanks again.

I would also check your clutch buttons (the little plastic things that your helix rides over...My guess is they are worn a little too...

Thanks mtndream,
I did notice they were slightly worn but didn't think it was a major area of concern yet.
Guess I'm off to the dealer for these too.

I will say this about the clutch kit. I makes a big difference in the low and mid range on this sled.
