What do you consider "cool" clutch temps and how quickly do they cool?
Reason I ask is I'm working on my clutching and I believe my temps are down nicely but is my method valid? Last night I rode home from club meeting and worked it out fairly hard. Then I had about 1/4 mile of easy going into yard. Stopped and popped side panel. Laid hand on secondary and it was plenty warm, but I could hold my hand on it indefinitely. I'd probably guess 120°f? Primary felt warmer by a few degrees but nothing major and could still hold my hand on it indefinitely. Is this cool enough or do I look to do better? Seems to me to be much cooler than typical.
This is with the 1.7 lug sno-x track that really works the motor. The secondary is wound at 3-3. I've been told to try 3-2 but I haven't gotten there yet. I'm already low on RPM so not sure if I'll try 6-1 for grins or 3-2 or leave as is and try moving weight around.

2-3 it will be cooler temps
20 miles at 3-3 was my Sunday test that I referred to in my first post.
7 miles at 3-2 last night and yes temps were definitely cooler. I was WOT whenever possible and I assume 7 miles should have them at full operating temp?
What puzzles me is that I did not lose RPM as expected. I'm tempted to keep fiddling, but I'm thinking I'll get a bit more trail time with this setup to see how it does.
I also need to decide what I'm going to do for a belt. Always ran 8DN. Tried Gates Carbon 8DN length and it just covers it up. 8JP feels so much better, but I find that on the first run it has better RPM then it drops about 2-300. This was at 6°f and I am assuming it is belt related and not air temp related?
