I have a Sidewinder LTX LE with Thunder products weights and orange spring. One of the roller bolts loosened up and fell out! Then the weight for that roller crashed through the sheave. I ordered a replacement sheave but it wont be here in time for my trip and I am leaving tomorrow. I have an 07 Apex, I already know the Apex clutch will fit. But can I run it as is? what will be the affects? or do I need to put the thunder weights in it along with the spring? I am ok if the sled wont have the top end... I just want to be sure it wont slip/ burn the belt up this weekend. TIA for the info if anyone knows!

You may be better off putting the stock winder weights and spring into the apex clutch....?

Really you are into a need to completely recalibrate the Apex clutch for it to perform properly...unless that apex clutch was tuned for 200 +++ hp you will badly over rev.

Its a stock Apex clutch, I am just trying to get the sled going for the trip I have planned leaving tomorrow. My only options at this point are to put the clutch from the 07 in as is.... or put the weights and spring in from the sidewinder (thunder products) into the 07 clutch, or put the stock spring and weights into the 07 clutch... what would you think would be my best option?

Move the spring and weights over. Increase the weight by 2 or 3 grams to start.

I would go heavy side , the sidewinder with tune will still run good at 8500 . I find myself running only about half throttle down lakes & fast trails on 270 tune anyways & it's still fast

Please clarify what you mean by go heavy side?? I have identified the weights as Heavy Hitters from Thunder. TIA!

He means if running the Apex Clutch to add all the weight possible to the Thunder weights which were intended for Sidewinder and dont hit the Rev limiter. Take note of whats on them now so when you get the Sidewinder clutch fixed you can go back.

You need to add 4.5 grams to the Heavy Hitter weights when going from a sidewinder clutch to an Apex or Viper (previous style) clutch.

If you are 250hpr, you are probably setup with 3/4 allen in the heel, 3/8 steel in the mid and 7/16 with a thin in the tip. You can try this setup which works.... 3/4 allen in the heel, 7/16 steel in the mid and 7/16 steel with 2 thick washers in the tip. That will add 4.4 grams to your weights.

Awesome! Bet he has a great ride now.

One more thread on this....

Guys we need to watch roller bolts/nuts.....and blue loctite them please!

Dan
I noticed on mine the bolts were installed backwards from the factory, meaning the nuts were on the front side of sled. I was always taught to install the bolts with the head of the bolt facing the front of the sled (front side as it rotates). So even if a nut were to loosen, the bolt cant fall out because of the rotation of the clutch. Wonder if they are all like this from the factory?
