I have an 06 and 07 apex both running heel clickers. I noticed last season that i had a pretty high and pretty harsh engagement. in order to get my engagement down around 4000-4100 i ended up having to run about 8.2 grams in the heel. i also noticed that when trail riding in the twisties it was hard to keep the clutch engaged in the corners. when i would get back on the gas half way through the corner it would engage so hard and fast again that it would pop the front end up making it hard to steer as well as spin the track a bit. the stock rollers in the clutches are 14.5mm and i know when i started tuning hc's back on my 2 strokes everyone said you couldn't use 14.5 rollers cause it would just grab and upshift too fast and "explode" with power as mrviper put it. my question is has anyone ever tried using larger rollers on the apex? wondering if that would make my engagement a little smoother and less abrupt as the roller would come out of the pocket easier. would the larger rollers lose enough force to really notice a difference i know larger =less force. i have a set of 15, 15.6 and 16 that i could try. any input would be great guys thanks.

sounds like your primary spring is the issue...if anything the setup you posted would be smoother lower engagement unless ...

the other potential issue is belt dust etc built up in the towers and spider bushing causing it to hang up and pop loose...I had one I worked on act like this...

All i use with hc,s is 14.5 rollers in any 4 strokes i run; including big hp turbo sleds i set up. You should be using a white hc primary spring or even a black is an option. With 4-5 grams in the heel your engagement should be about 4-4200 rpm,s with the white spring.
Larger rollers would raise engagement & slip your belt at low speeds. The abruptness your talking about is probably the effect that hc,s grab the belt so hard initially on engagement which is a good thing.
If your running 8 grams in the heel your weight is probably hitting the heel & your not getting full shift at high speeds.
I have a gazzilion hours of experience with these weights.

the primary springs are the white ones that come with the heel clickers and are brand new. so don't think they are the problem. towers slide freely when they have the cap and spring off. not sure what else it could be.

hey turk weight does not hit against the shoulder i have clearance notches in the outside behind the heel. i am running the white hc spring as well. running 4g in the tip 8.2 heel. maybe the abruptness is just the nature of the beast when it comes to the power band of the apexes. seems like the engagement at 4000-4200 is right where the power of the motor really seems to come on which was not the case on the old 2 strokes i was used to setting up with hc's.

I had good luck running the stock style springs with the weights... a spring such as y-s-y..or others...if interested p.m. me...

I would change your set up. Try 5 grams heel
4 grams inner & 3 in tip.
Your set up is way out of balance.

thanks for the input turk i will try that setup when the snow flies. ya it did seem a little out of balance having that much in the shoulder and so little in the tip. however aside from the issue i was describing it ran awesome last season. pulled really hard off the line rpms shot right up to 9800 and then just climbed to about 10600-10700. it had 23/38 gearing last year and hit 206kmh or 128mph on the dream meter on close to glare ice. this year i am running 24 top gear see if i can get any more out of it.

Don't wanna hijack here, but do you use those with you Nytro DnF setup?
