I just installed a cobra track with 162 1.450 studs down the middle, they tore the exhaust clamps off, pulled the gasket out and cut grooves in pipe, any ideas on how to protect.
thanks

I have the same set up (198)only rode it once. Mine is a 08 ltx gt i did notice that there was damage to the brackets that go around the exhaust and 1 scatch in the y pipe. I have only gone a short distance. Which model is yours? let me know what you find as I may have similar problems.

The long term fix is shorter studs. Otherwise you have to run the track so tight you're are burning the hyfax off.

No that's not the case... You don't need shorter studs. Make sure your exhaust clamps are exactly parallel to the top of the tunnel. If they are angled at all, they will hit. When you goto adjust the clamps, pull the skid out because it's way easier to get at the clamps to adjust them properly.
The track can be as loose as you want. I ran 1.450's with my ripsaw as well and I have no issues with the cobra either. The clamps cannot have any angle to them. For some reason yours were not at the right angle from the factory, unless you played with the exhaust?
If you have not played with the exhaust, then pull the seat and you will see two rubber gromets under the seat. Remove them and you should be able to adjust from the top.

You might be able to just pull the rear two bolts that connect the suspension to the tunnel. This gives decent access and is half the headache of pulling the suspension entirely. I need new clamps but I will do whatever it takes to maintain this level of traction. I have 162 1.45" mega-bites down the middle with a single/double pattern.

The track can not be as loose as you want with 1.45 studs, you are asking for big problems if you run that track loose especially if you do not have extra protection. If you are hitting the clamps look closely at the front of the tunnel to make sure you are not hitting. I do not doubt that you have not had problems but I have had major problems with the 1.450 and would never do it again period.SledFreak said:Len Todd said:The long term fix is shorter studs. Oh but you can... The cobra is exactly 1/8" taller than the ripsaw. The 1.450's are an 1/8" taller than the 1.325's. You do not need extra tunnel protection with a cobra track. I run mine as loose as possible without ratcheting... The clamps are not at the front of the tunnel, it's where the header meets the exhaust. If they are angled down they will hit. If they are parallel to the top of the tunnel, then you are good to go.. I have had both tracks on with both lengths of studs and the 1.450's are the ticket with either track. In fcat they work even better on the ripsaw on hardpack. I know a few guys that run Woody's 1.520's and get away with it..
What problem did you have?

Major clearance problems in the front because the extra tunnel protectors did not go the full length, I even questioned this when I purchased the extra protectors and the vendor said "don't worry about the front its the rear you have to worry about". Well the studs wore through the front portion of the tunnel behind the heat exchanger. So this time I am having a expert metal fabricator measure and add protection the entire length of the stock protectors.
When I looked at the Cobra track this fall it seemed that only the outer paddles were 1.325 and the inner were 1.25 .
