Yes,its the cam sensor. I took it to the dealer and of course, it started! So I still have no clue what happened other than maybe the sensor wire was loose?

I'm thinking moisture. Did the dealer do anything like reseat the connector to it? If itks not much $$$ I would just replace it. You don't want to be stranded and lose time on a trip. Did they show you where it's at? Something you can replace?

I know about where it is yes. I think the airbox has to come off to get at. I don't look forward to that! He did reset some stuff. It was throwing a few codes besides the 11. He said it was probably a fluke-one in a million the engine stopped in the wrong place but with my luck u cann make that 2 in a million when I get up in the middle of nowhere! Yes, I think I'll replace it!

Air box is not that bad. If you don't have one, buy a set of ball end T handle metric allen wrenches to loosen the throttle body clamps. Makes the job so much easier. Then a good pair of needle nose for the clamps on the hoses and your home free. When you go to put it back on just spray your finger with a little WD and swipe the inside of the boots for the throttle bodies. This way they will slip right on and you won't have any leaks. I have had my air box off so many times for testing the remote start it's not even funny. I can rip my sled apart down to the air box and back together in 5 minutes no lie. Once you do it as few times, the air box removal is a piece of cake. Just make sure you have the T handles. It's really a must. A regular allen is a Pain in the a$$

Ps....odd that the engine sitting just at a certain spot could cause this. I have a hard time swallowing that...but who knows. I mean there are 2 of you this week it happened to? That's a little more than 1 in a million...

I will take your advice and get the wrenches! As I recall, the battery is down there too as is the oil filter so I think the wrenches are something I can use often? Thanks!

Yeah you will use them quite often. #5 for the panel around the steering column and a #4 for the air box. Also get the Yamaha oil filter wrench because nothing else works and it's another tool to make life much easier! I'm actually thinking of the relocation kit for the filter.

I'm certainly not going to argue with that theory because that was my origional impression. Question is: moisture where? And how do I avoid it in the future? Perhaps put some liquid electric tape on the connections going to the cam sensor?bigdave said:It had to be moisture

No...either Vaseline or di-electric grease on the connector, but I'm wondering if moisture is getting IN the sensor

Can't be that uncommon.
I went out today for only my 3rd day of riding. Had 30 km (20 miles) on for the day. Stopped at an intersection to talk to a few guys & when I when to start it up gauges worked slight sound from the gauges, then nothing. Warning lights & Code 11. Had been running fine so was a little suprised, but figured it was electrical & new code 11 was Cylinder Identification Sensor (have the codes printed & stapled inside the owners manual).
Will take it in to the dealer tommorow. Sucks as the warranty ran out at the start of the season & now 250 miles after warranty into the shop it is going.
What was the cost to get it fixed?

I took it into the dealer. Of course I checked to make sure it still didn't work just before I jumped in the truck and it didn't. The dealer got his elec. meter to check all the voltages and when he turned the key, as you would expect, it fired right up! So I have nothing definitive as to what went wrong. He did suggest it could be a bad sensor but was more likely the in the starting system and just maybe a simple loose battery connection. I took the airbox off when I got home and checked the sensor. It was tight and dry. I then wibbled the battery connections. The positive wire was definately loose so I tighened it and buttoned things back up. It has started every time since then. I hope I got it solved cuz I'm off to the UP for week.

Sweet to hear man.....sounds like a cheap fix and you can chalk it up to experience.

Mines at the dealer. They took out the starter & every thing was fine there. THey checked the voltage on the sensor & specs say has to be 4.8 or higher & mine was reading 5.0. They hadn't checked battery connections yet & had ordered a new sensor in case that one is faulty.
Sort of sucks as the warranty ran out 6 weeks prior so will be getting a bill. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Bought it for reliability. So far my 1st issue ,really, so I am hoping it is a fluke thing!

Got it back. Grounds were good, no loose wires to sensor or starter. Starter looked good they say. Replaced sensor in case it was faulty.
Picked it up today. Started from trailer into garage, loaded it later for a ride (started no problem). Drove 3 minutes to unload, started again no problem.Rode it about 7-8 miles to local gas station to top it up, go to pull away & Code 11 again which would not reset so sitting with the same issue again.
$377 later (after the 1st repair) & now here we go again. Dealer came & picked it up at the gas station & loaned me an 09 Apex. I don't plan on experimenting by putting new parts on to see if that is the issue. How do I find out what NEEDS to be fixed for sure. $377 for a 7 mile run is too rick for my pocket book. What would you do?
