Working on a sled for another member (07 Apex). Got the oil leak from the turbo problem fixed. Now when I had it running I had 42 and 84 come up. 42 may be my fault as I had the belt off when I fired the sled up. 84 was there on start up. Checked the throttle and free play and all is good. Got the rpms up once to 5k but 84 slammed it back down. Went thru diag via the dash and it shows the TORS switch is working. It also will count up when checking the speed sensor(42). Went to clear the codes but they won't clear. 61 shows no codes but 62 shows 2 codes. What have I missed?

I am pretty sure those codes are linked together. If the sled experts to see a speed input but does not it would think the speed sensor is broken or something is wrong. Get the belt in and track turning and I'd expect it all to clear.

I think the speed sensor is good. Got the numbers to climb on the diagnostic screen when I turn the track by hand.
This sled had 84 before I started fixing the oil leak. Needed to drive it out of my garage and into the trailer but could not . Code 84 prevented that. Good thing too because in the short time I had it running it lost almost a litre of oil.
Turbo oil return was kinked. Oil was going thru the exhaust and the intake and everywhere else. The switch at the bars work according to the diagnostic screen. I will check the switch on the tb rack??

I had that come up on my apex the other day. The bolt holding the speed sensor nut worked its way loose and fell to the bottom of the sled. I only noticed as I did not have an odometer or indication of speed. Code 42 and 84 came up shortly there after and once put back together everything went back to normal

Not sure about 42 but code 84 is throttle position sensor sensing throttle not returning to zero. My 13' xtx did it after the dealer replaced the entire hand controls, wireimg and Handel bar set up (long story) got it back and when playing in the field in early snow, go to make a hard left or right turn and the sled would idle up 1000 rpm and throw code 84. Ended up when I looked under the air box, was the way the tech had re-routed the throttle cable incorrectly causeing tension on the cable when the bars were cut hard either way. I unhooked and re-routed the cable and it's 100% now.

Cable is good and the correct free play is there. Took the thumb lever off and someone has install an extra pin inside beside the pivot pin for the thumb lever.
I'm guessing this was their way of trying to bypass the TORS (84). Not sure if they messed with the TPS when the turbo was installed back in 2007. This turbo mod makes it very interesting to work on the sled compared to stock sleds.
I'm sure 42 will correct itself once a fire up the sled again and spin the track. I just find it strange that both codes show up on the dash just with the ignition on.

If the bearing behind the speedo has been overly greased the excess can cause the speedo to get a false reading causing the tors alarm.Cable is good and the correct free play is there. Took the thumb lever off and someone has install an extra pin inside beside the pivot pin for the thumb lever.

OK. The bearing is good. The relucktor wheel is clean of any grease or debris and the sensor is working and verified working by the diagnostic via the dash.
There is slack in the throttle cable and the switch is working in the throttle block and verified by the dash diagnostics.
Code 42 came up when I had the sled running on the stand with no secondary on. The engine managed to hit 5k rpm once while I was trying different things to see why code 84 was flashing.
So again I think code 42 was my fault when the sled went over 4k with no input from the speed sensor and I think it will disappear when I fire up the sled and run it on the stand with the belt on and spin the track.
I also had code 21. I forgot to plug in the air sensor. This code quit flashing as soon as I plugged in. In the diagnostic screens I could erase code 21 from the ecm but it would not allow me to erase code 42 or 84.
Both these codes show up when I turn the ign on with out the sled running. I am wondering how the system even knows that there is a fault when it has even fired up yet.

I think the ecm, for lack of a better term, "soft stores" the codes and looks for the condition that initially set the code to be gone before it will clear them. Just a theory though...

I had the same problem, I got 42 to clear by spinning the track by hand to get a speed reading. In my case 42 cause a code 84. 84 would not let my engine Rev up past engament speed even once I fixed 42.

Rev'ed mine up yesterday with no belt, no codes.

Only had code 84 when I had it running the first time. After fixing the oil leak on the turbo I warmed up the engine for 5 mins or so. Searched around for the reason why I had 84. Got the engine to spin over 3000rpm once and that's when 42 came up. Figured I got it because the secondary was off.Rev'ed mine up yesterday with no belt, no codes.
I have now taken the turbo off and sent it out for inspection of the oil seals.
Once it comes back I will do another run and test. Maybe the codes will go away.
