I just did the "Handle bar mod" on my buddies 06 RTX with stock grips. I wired the yellow/red to one side of each grip and the other side to the black wire leaving the black/red out (from series to parrallel). Started up the sled and drove it out and the yellow light is flashing with 81 in the display. I have read only 26 pages of the "Handle bar Mod" thread and have not come accross anyone experiencing code 81. Will this be normal after the mod or should I be checking something else?

My recommendation: put it back to stock and get a Yamaheater. End your code 81 issues once and for all. Also, why risk your stator's lifespan and sled reliability?

Thanks for your input Super SLed. Yes I agree with doing the Yamaheater but he has read the thread where this is done and there has been no ill effects. One post has a sled with over 8000kms with the mod. I have now read all 46 pages of this mod and still can not find mention of code 81. As far as the stator life goes I think it would be the same with the Yamaheater or this mod. To get more heat you need more power thus loading the stator more. I think the mod would be harder on the ECU than anything else.
Has anyone with the handlebar mod expeirenced code 81??

I have the Yamaheater not your mod and I saw code 81 once this season, only once when I started the sled for the 1st time after the install. Rock said that my warm idle may have been low, should be 1400, or the battery may have needed charging ,which I did over night. It hasn't come back since and just turning off the machine once after the code came up cleared it.

Got mad today and opened up the wiring that I soo nicely heat shrunk and taped. I found out that I used the black/red as a ground. My bad. Hooked the ground to the black and the code was gone and the warmers got hot.
Thanks for the replies
