Hey, just had this idea pop in my head the other day, not sure if it would work or not or if it has been done before so i thought id post it up here to see what responses i get. My idea was to remove the top airbox lid completly and the lower foam and mesh screen but still keeping the lower aibox(for the sensor) and clamp 3 cone filters to the snorkles on the airbox (60mm i believe) and then place 3 prefilters overtop of the filter to keep out snow. I know the nytro would be better for this as my dads apex has the airbox ontop and one with the hood as well as the phazers but the nytro airbox is under the hood and covered. Any thoughts if this would work?

i see there are kits like that on Ebay for sale..seems like a good setup, at least you wouldn't have to worry about the filters falling off.

Yeaa!! thats pretty much what i was thinking of doing! lol! Do you think it would be good? Any difference in performance? I see your sig says K&N filters. Do you have them on the airbox? or the TB's themselves?

they add HP for sure..i just just have the Filters no Airbox in place,im not sure if having the bottom of the box there would rob HP or not,If i was doing the filter kit over again i would use the K&N Cone type Filters..there smaller and probley would be easier to secure to the throttle bodies.

er
I think the stock airbox would help, It would bring in air from the bottom scoop and still keep some of the engine heat away from the filters. What about the plug that goes in the stock airbox?? is it a fuel to air sensor? or a temp sensor? or??

Do you know what the throttle body outside boot measures for the filters. You can buy all kinds of filters from K&N but I don't know what size and they don't list one on there page either.

Just get the kit from Ulmer. By the time you buy them separate and pay for a programmer and dyno time to make them work.....then you need dust covers....

you can buy the Filter chargers that go over the Filters from K&N..i bought the Ulmer kit but i may change to the Cone type filters as they leave more room under the hood...and probley don't need 20 Zipties to hold them secure..lol
Im not sure on the outside measurement bwwelke is but a user on here by the name of Ski-DooStomper made his own kit by buying the filters directly from K&N.

So if i decide to take out the stock airbox completely and add the filters and pre filter to the throttle bodies, Where does the air/fuel sensor go?? Also, would i need a fuel programmer?? or will the efi adjust itself? Thanks

the Sensor is just ziptied to the Frame..recamend that you position it in a spot where it gets fresh air(behind a vent)
you will also need 2 small filters, one is a oil breather filter, Cant remember what the other one is for.
i ran mine last year with no Programmer..some sleds seem to be ok..others need a programmer.

Since my grizzly ate my budget this year for any mods or even heat for my house, I am making my own. i designed a kit for the grizzly for KN to use. Going to use the same concept for the Nytro. Using a flat filter from a 2.4l Sunfire and installing it on the lid of the air box. I have an extra filter from designing the grizzly kit so it will be essentially free.

i was just out inspecting my sled before i go riding tomorow and found 2 of my filters were off the throttle bodies..im not sure how to keep them from falling off but i did get them back on and tried some more Zipties..if they come off tomorrow i'll be going back to the Stock airbox...not worth the hassel of wondering if there gonna stay on or not.
