Cold Start problems

From 07 to my 11 unless you cycle the key a couple times and push some extra fuel in it wont start when its really cold outside. Its almost a sin to start these machines and shut them off before the red light goes out so heres my question. With the problems starting in the cold is it going to be a problem over time when the sled fires up and stalls twice before it actually runs? Meaning plug problems.

Contact your dealer and give them your VIN to register the problem. My dealer said that when he called Yamaha they stated that they were aware of the problem but that it was not showing on all Apex's. Both of our 11's have a cold start issue with stalling. If you cycle the pump for sure two times it will be better. At three times they start like they should when cold.

Not mine.

Cycle the pump 3 times and it still will not start until the third cranking sequence.

Not really a big deal and I am not sure I want young mechanics messing with it because it work soooo Gooooood otherwise.

I have reported it though.

Not likely you will see a plug issue. It is not staying going as it does not have enough fuel IMHO.

yeah, ive lined up the head mech at our dealership to change the oil and in the chaincase. Ive been doing it for years and since first service is free why not. One of the few 5 star dealers around here and Ill mention the starting issue to them. Its a little worse than my 07 but still all smiles. After all the sleds ive been through it finally feels like ive got what ive wanted since 07.

has anyone tried fattening up the CO setting on these hard start / stalling sleds? manufactures have been using very lean low speed calibrations for years due to emissions restrictions.

This should be an easy thing to fix. Is this part of the fuel mapping or is it a mechanical starting injection? If its mechanical a bigger jet would be in order or an old fashioned primer pump would work as well. If enough of you report and you should I am sure Yamaha will fix it.

I'm on that list ! I had 0 starting issues until the temps droped below -10* cel. Yup ,, the first trip to the cabin and the damn sled won't start the next morning. On the 3rd attempt I gave it a shot of gas. It picked up a sip of fuel and slowly rasied idle enough to smooth out like it normally does. This is unacceptable for a fuel injected engine with this much R&D time :whine:

ive got a power commander 5 on order and allen did say the 11s were running lean mid range and on top. I went and started it this morning in -30c temps, turned the key back and forth 3 times and it coughed and sputtered and finally ran.

I agree... Adjusting the CO is for the bottom off idle. I would try bumping that up.

I mentioned the problem to them today, they told me it was still breaking in lol. Whatever but it sat outside for almost 5 hours in -30c and started first time soooo that was different

My 2011 se started this Morning ran for about 10secs and then quit I tried to re start no such luck going to check co's and maybe bump them up, I do have different muffler on but it ran fine yesterday when I pulled it out the shop but that's heated and it sat all night in the trailer so maybe froze up???

That's why... you leaned it out even more...

Exactly what our two 11's do. As we discussed, if you prime the fuel pump "three" times the problem goes away. However, this is unacceptable to me. I do it obviously, my Dealer told me that he "registered" our two vin's with Yamaha. Yamaha needs to see your video.
