Conditions in Ontario?

Fabio said:
Hey pat the rat,

me and my bro are coming up next week for our yearly trip to ride the great trails in northern Ontario,

we were hoping to start north of north bay and sledding up to cochrane and back around

my question to you is where do you think would be a good place to start considering the trail conditions,

Thanks Fabio
if i were you,i would drive to kirkland lake, the trails are perfect overthere, south to new liskeard is not the best, rideable but not perfect, not sure from liskeard to north bay but they should be good, again, anything north of kl right up to hearst is excellent, were suppose to have some snow in the next few days so you should be fine, enjoy your trip

Looking for info on pembroke trails up to north bay?? Trying to ride it friday/Saturday.
Thanks JROCK

Lots on snow in the next 2 days for us but then a bit of rain for Pembroke. Rolphton should not get rain and if they do it will be just very wet snow(As of now acording to the weather network.) Conditions from what i understand are good Pembroke up, getting better as you go north

Missing link's trails are MINT and same with North bay. from last i was told a few days ago (They got pounded with snow I think it was close to 30cm's?).

I plan to be in pembroke on thursday and will let you know on the conditions. The only problem is the rain they are calling for on friday.

Thanks for the update! Look forward to your update on Thursday. Were planning on going to quebec but they are calling for 20-30mm of rain. We figure pembroke up arent getting that much rain. Where's the best place to stay in North Bay for the night??

It depends on what you want. A cottage with your own kitchen and all that (good choice if you have a 2-3 family group since the price can be split and a lot of the cottages have 2-3 bedrooms. or just a hotel/motel room.

Just looking for a cheap hotel with good security for the sleds.

I have never stayed in town so i cant really suggest anything for you but check out this map http://nnta.ca/map/ it has the snowmobile friendly gas/accommodations/food.

Have a read through http://ontarioconditions.com/forums/ind ... e-to-stay/ there is some info. Close to the bottom of the page there is a cheaper option but i can not vouch for any of these. I usually stay outside of town.

Thanks for the link.Where abouts do you stay out of town?

I have stayed at the Cozy Camp Cottages. I like the location to get to trails with ought having to deal with getting around in town. It is a bit more on the pricey side since it is a cottage but we where 3 splitting the bill.

I have also stayed at the mattawa golf and ski, liked it a bit better. Same thing if you are splitting the bill it gets cheaper. It is less of a drive since you come of ottawa.

Both places have the trails to the door.

Were actually looking at trailering up to pembroke then riding up to north bay and back! What are we looking at for mileage a day? Sounds do-able??

I think so. They are fast trails from pembroke to mattawa. Never rode from mattawa to nb yet through the top trails so don't know for sure. They follow pipe lines most of the way.

If it looks like you have time ride some of the Missing link club trails. 195-197 are usually the best conditions you will ever find. I am not sure how long the trip will be but if you are there for another day a nice ride is up to Temiskaming using the A/D then A102Q. them come back down through the NB300's north of North bay take the NB301 and you will end up in mattawa and head back to North bay. Those are some of my favorite trails to ride on and they are very well kept.

You can go into temiskaming for food/gas without a Quebec trail pass but don't go past that.

Sweet! Were capable of some good miles in a day. Jusr got back from a 2 day trip in quebec 800 km total. Sounds like you know the area wanna come lol? Thanks for the info and I hope the rain holds out.

I wish! got school on week ends though (was a lot cheaper).

By the looks of it if you get to Pembroke early enough you SHOULD be ahead the the warmer weather.

I do go up the way a lot, especially with the snow we have had here in Ottawa this winter.

Not sure how often you drive up hw. 17 or where you are parking but gas is usualy cheaper in cobden, the shell on the left.

And as for gas on the sleds i would make sure to top off in Deep River no matter how much gas you have left since the price just sky rockets after that. Gas avalible in Rolphton and again in stone cliff. None in Deux Riviere ( i have made that mistake before!) then you should really be able to make it to North bay. Also gas at the Mattawa golf N ski resort but would be pricy so use it only in an emergency.

No gas in bonfeild unless they re-built a gas station so keep that in mind.

Not sure how much you ride up there so i wanted to make sure there where no surprises for ya.

I will let you know what Pembroke looks like if i get up there on thursday.
Enjoy!
