06 Ride Report
First off I'd like to thank MrSled and Yamaha for giving me such an awesome opportunity. One of the highlights of my snowmobiling life
I'm 5'10" and 140lbs i'm not an aggressive rider but do love to fly when conditions are right!
The new lineup is everything you've heard, Due to conditions in Brainerd our ride consisted of mostly lake riding with a short section through the bullrushes along the shoreline allowing for a few bumps to get the feel of the suspension. While not the best situation to thourghly test all conditions we did have a blast trying out each model. No way can i compete with Mr Sleds awesome review so i'm just going to highlight a few of the thing that really stood out to me.
1. Favorite sled Apex RTX hit the throttle and hang on the new EFI pushes this sled to the point of whiplash! insurance companies be warned!
A very comfortable seat and when your ready to stand it's a matter of simply putting a little pressure on your heels and you instantly glide into the perfect standing position, it just feels right! unlike my 05 where i have to move my feet back to get the same feeling. The handle bar height was pefect for standing or sitting and made steering a breeze. The perfect kick a$$ cruiser
2. Big Big surprise was the Vector GT although not as neck breaking as the 4 cylinder it was an absolute pleasure to ride actual weight may be close to big brother but it sure felt lighter to me. This was the first opportunity for me to ride one and i was pleasently surprised much easier to toss around i can see why you guys that have em love em! In the tight twistys this sled will rule the new monoshock is a great improvement as it was with the 05 RX1. This sled will do a 100 mph plus i hit 102 and she was still climbing, If you want a lighter sled with awesome gas milage and ample power this ones for you.
3. Nytro! What can i say enough fun to put a smile on the grouchiest guy you know. This sled is made for the rough stuff best of the bunch in the suspension department. This was the sled everyone went for on each and every ride you had to move fast to get a turn. While it's an awesome ditch banger it is not a cruiser be warned if your under 180 lbs at 90mph the wind damn near pushes you off the sled with the design of the current windshield you take it right in the chest. SnowX here we come
4.Apex GT like the RTX was an awesome ride throttle response is much improved over the 05's. The top of the seat seemed a little narrow to me, when bouncing around it was fairly easy to slide off the side although Terry from Yamaha indicated that many details were still being worked and the seats may or may not be exactly the same as with handle bar height they are tweaking these items to get them in the best positon as indicated by ride reports from guys like us! Ergonomics on these new sleds is one of the major improvements over earlier models they really put a lot of thought into the design of the seating, handlebars, running boards, etc to make it a very comfortable ride in any position you choose.
5.Attack in all fairness conditions were such that we could'nt really get a true comparison between the 121 and 136 pretty much the same as riding an Apex GT except for a little more traction and a little more pushing through the corners.
6. My only negative on any of these sleds was the windshields they all seemed like they did a poor job of protecting the rider it was 10 degrees and windy when we were whipping across the lake at 85 to 100 mph the hands and face could really feel it. I normally ride without a baklava but after the first two rides i put one on. While they look very cool there not real functional. This will be my first upgrade when i purchase one if they don't decide to change it before they get released.
Overall Yamaha has done an incredible job with this years lineup allowing for various riding styles the way they have i can easily see where they could steal a lot of buyers from the other brands. Why not they have the most reliable, best performing sleds in the business. Way to go Yamaha and thanks again for the opportunity.
One last topic and i'm done. Bunny "yeah baby" couple of facts she lives somewhere in wisconsin, cuts hair for a living, and only has one sister
