On one of my 03's i have a coolant leak at the pipe that enters the head. Itwas small so I tried to remove and clean, grease and reinstall but now its worse. Any tricks or anyone useing some kind of sealant?

my 03 had the same leak, ended up changing the o-ring, had a kit with many different sizes and used the closest one. you could try some rtv blue silicone and give it a day to set, or hit the hardware store or auto parts place with the old one to match up. order a new one from dealer just in case your fix dont work. clean both contact surfaces as they may have corrosion and use vaseline or grease for reassembly.

Grader's suggestion is right on the money. I am finding these connection points can and will be a problem. The dam tubes Yamaha used are steel and corrode right at the connection point. Make sure the top of the head and the steel tube are clean, replace the o-ring with a close match from an auot parts store. I have found a lot of scale, deposits form right where the tube goes into the aluminum head. Clean the connection point in the head with a round wire brush (shotgun cleaning brush). I believe the buildup of this scale makes a leak path past the o-ring. Apply some RTV silicone, a small amount to the tube where the o-ring bottom out (where the tube has the bump out), slide on the o-ring and put a light coat of RTV on the o-ring. Reinstall, let it set overnitght and refill the system. I have worked on a few RX-1s with leaks at these connections. Dam steel tubing will corrode away even though a good antifreeze is being used. This will provide a really good seal.
