Tonight I was checking over the girfriends new to her 2011 Nytro MTX and I noticed the coolant tank was below the low mark. Actuall couldn't see any. Didn't get a owners manual with this sled as we bought it used. Without thinking I just poured some antifreeze in the jug until it was at the full mark. Just checking on line I read that I can get air bubbles in the system this way if the tank was completely empty.
How can I check it and make sure I purge all the air out if there is any in there .
Going for our first ride of the year and She will be nervous enough with the new sled, dought she will even look at the guage cluster.
Might think of relocating that up higher for better visability.

The Nytro has a radiator, pull the hood and fill the radiator. The Yamaha cooling system doesn't have much of a problem with purging air. After a few heat cycles it may pull some coolant from the jug so recheck it periodically.

No sled is all stock. What ever coolers are on there is what it came with. So should I start it with the rad cap off and let it run for a few minutes to purge any air that might be in there.

Best bet is to fill the res to low level, lift the front end up just a few inches to raise it and run it up with the cap off until it's up to operating temp. Top up if or as required. By raising it slightly it allows the air to travel to highest point which is the rad.nitris223 said:No sled is all stock. What ever coolers are on there is what it came with. That is where I was going. You can burp the system as he said, by raising the back. Gets any air out of the system by raising the rear of the sled up with a lift or strap at about a 25-30 degree angle. Run it a bit till it raises the temp up. You will hear it bup and gurgle at the higher temps, while watching the. The bottle should empty a bit. then once that happens you can fill it. That should solve any possible issue. Had to do this when I put on my new heat exchanger. That is why I asked the question above.

I believe you mean front end? My RX1 had a bleed screw on the very back of the tunnel but the Nytro's don't..sheetwright said:That is where I was going. As grizztracks said, the radiator is important and the coolant tank is not. Make sure you bleed the coolant system at the back of the tunnel heat exchanger and at the hose behind the battery. Then make sure your under hood radiator is full.
The level of the coolant tank means nothing. If you are an aggressive rider, fluid will splash out through the overflow hose all the time. Installing an internal overflow hose (from the cap down to the bottom of the tank) might help a little.

Yes Most Yamaha Sleds have a bleed Valve under the seat, you really do not need to raise it like you did years ago in the 90's, You can simply drain the coolant in the front, once fully drained start to fill the new 60/40 mix into the system through the filler overflow. Once it is full ( the first time), leave the cap off, start the machine and let it suck in the antifreeze. Remember to leave the Cap off the overflow and crack the bleeder valve under the seat. Continue to add until its full, Should take close to (3) 32 oz 's of Yamacool. Try and stick with Yamacool its better on the system and diluted at 60/40 already. Its easier than most make it out to be to flush this system, Yamacool use to be yellowish/orange it is now Blue in color. Some people freak out when they think their yamaha is discolored or yellowish brown, ( do not worry) it is the color of the yamacool back in the early 2000's to about 2006.If its still that color, its probably time to change it :'). It is now blue in color. Good Luck and happy sledding!

Use only compatible antifreeze... BMW or Mercedes or better yet Yamacool... If you used basic in the garage antifreeze, you might want to flush it...Tonight I was checking over the girfriends new to her 2011 Nytro MTX and I noticed the coolant tank was below the low mark. Well, that can be tricky depends on a few things, where is the coolant going and how long was it like this. Sometimes after sitting a long time I have seen it lower ( almost evaporate like water) probably because the mix was over 60/40 and more like 60 water and 40 coolant which would cause this verses what it should have been. I have seen techs put in the wrong ratio at the dealer, yes , numerous times. What I would do to change is, (1)take a floor jack or put a 1000 lb winch in your garage rafter to lift up the front of the sled, ( I have a 1000 pound one just for sleds in my garage I hook to a battery for up and down that I use to keep the track elevated in the off-season). (2) Take off the seat and look for the bleeder valve, there is one on that model on the tunnel. (3) Crack the bleeder valve just barely open so it bubbles verses wide open.it will hisss with limited liquid. (4) take off the overflow hose ( get a pan under it and expect some antifreeze). 4. fire up your air compressor ( if you do not have one borrow one or if you have a leaf blower this will work too) 5. Add your air compressor tip ( like the one to blow out a floor). On each side of the area or tip inserted into the hose put Duct tape so it seal off the hoses and creates a solid seal. Do the same if its a leaf blower, create a seal of air 6. Unhook the lower antifreeze line ( not the upper that is hooked to the air line now) and make sure its in an oil pan or equivalent to catch the coolant. 7. tighten the bleeder valve you loosened earlier. 8. Shoot compressed air in through the top over flow area. this should blow all of the coolant out of the system. You will need about 20 seconds of air and it will drain almost all out. you may want 15 additional seconds after its been draining a while. just to ensure its all out. 9. unhook all the air and reattach all the hoses to where they belong. 10 lower the front of the sled to the floor and fill the overflow reservoir. when it disappears fill it again to the top. 11. now raise the front of the sled again so its elevated above the back seat. 12. start the sled and leave the cap off of the reservoir. 13. crack the bleeder valve now and it should burp out the system completely leaving no air in the system when its done burping. tighten the bleeder. 14. Fill and top off the coolant. should take 3 32 oz containers. If it does not, open the bleeder and continue to burp until full. If you blew out the lines as described abouve it will take all 3 32 oz containers of coolant. Use Yamacool, it is the best, I could care less what most say on alternatives but its made for these sleds in all extremes. It is a real easy process, and takes about 30 minutes once everything is there. Good Luck

FYI, I was just up in caribou 2 weeks ago before the last 2 storms and it was the most awesome riding I have ever done in my life, the best I have ever seen and I go to Pittsburg NH and colebrook every year. Just wanted to comment since I noticed your up the road in Maine. Good luck with that flush! If you need any assistance I'll be checking this, its real easy and will flush the system out amazing. Make sure you use good coolant.
