The Toy Carrier is the way to go for a single trailer and the Apex will fit fine.
I have a double Karavan aluminum trailer with dual Toy Carriers. The Toy Carriers would be perfect except for the snow that builds up between them (there is a new double Toy Carrier available this year that solves that issue). With a single trailer they work perfectly.
The only issue I have seen with some trailers is the Toy Carrier doesn't have much space up front for the skis and this forces you to park the sled a little farther back than a typical slush shield would. If the trailer is low on tongue weight the Toy Carrier can make it worse.
I'm not sure of the current price on the Toy Carriers, but we paid about $700 Canadian each for them a couple of years ago.
BTW, we've been hauling Apex's in ours all last season and there is no problem with the fit. My wife's 1998 Venture 700 is a tight fit (in length), but it also fits.
